Silent Assassin...

by Kutusov - 5/11/06 2:31 PM In reply to: Hitman2 by JimF809

Well, on my part, the only hitman2 I’ve heard is the game. I never came across that one in any review either, as far as I recall… So maybe that’s why. A lot of people came across a particular software after reading about it in a review article or a forum like this one… So now you made me look for it and I’ve just download it. It doesn’t seam to have any update buttons or anything…. The site from where I’ve downloaded it is from Netherlands or something, so I couldn’t read about it…. Can you post some more info about it? Does this software auto-updates it self?

Spybot serch and destroy (teatimer)

by jwdever1 - 1/21/09 2:31 PM In reply to: If I could only use 1 antispyware utility which 1 would i us by Zgringo

I have had teatimer in my spybot sice i have upgraded it. If you have teatimer loos it!!!! it let 10 insadents of reg changes, in my computer after these changes in my registry my spybot,Ad-Aware,PC Cillin, did not work at all. Teatimer realy dosen't work. if your are running a small (hard drive)and older computer It slows down the computer considerably. If you want to keep spybot but not run the teatimer then do the following; click on START click on RUN type in the box msconfig (no caps) click OK this will bring up a widow called (Sytem Configuration Utility) Next click on the START UP tab, a list of items will be in a list these items are things that start to run when you start up your computer. Next uncheck the box next to Tea Timmer and this will shut down Tea Timer. You will still have full use of Spybot.

Antispyware

by flgassociates - 5/9/06 6:51 PM In reply to: Which antispyware utility would you use? by Marc Bennett Moderator

While I use four different antispyware utilities, if I had to choose only one it would be Spybot - Search and Destroy.

I would choose Ad-Aware SE Personal

by jacobssr2000 - 5/9/06 6:51 PM In reply to: Which antispyware utility would you use? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have ran different antispyware utilitys and always 1 would find more than the other. I was told about Ad-Aware SE Personal and it was free. I gave it a try and it found what the others did and a few more. I have deleted the others and only use this one now.

Ad-Aware SE Personal

by Dreslinski59 - 5/9/06 7:06 PM In reply to: I would choose Ad-Aware SE Personal by jacobssr2000

I agree. I have Spy-Bot installed and Ad-Aware always finds additional items after I've run Spy-Bot. As its free, I'm thinking about buying the subscription application.

I, too, have tried other spyware and use only Ad-Aware SE PE

by DarCLew2 - 5/11/06 12:06 AM In reply to: I would choose Ad-Aware SE Personal by jacobssr2000

Personal Edition. I have Computer Associates Antivirus but did not like pest patrol and it was $ as some of the others. Tried Windows Defender Beta 2 and it used more space than I needed. Had Yahoo Toolbar with Antispy & popup blocker and it too was not as good and I'm on AOL and SpyZapper doesn't pick up on anything and I deleted the AOL Spyware Protection from my registry, it is listed under safety at the top. PestPatrol did find Bonzai Buddies in the registry (14), and it took me some time to find them and delete them. I had a very tough malware once and it took 3 passes with Ad-Aware SE to remove it, one the 2nd attempt, it did not have icons but went straight to Ad-Aware and took care of this very stubborn item. Tried most if not all Spware doctor works for me

by wizard1786 - 6/18/06 8:52 PM In reply to: I would choose Ad-Aware SE Personal by jacobssr2000

Ad-aware is ok but I had a pesky spyware program on my compouter a year ago and Spyware was the only one that removed it.

Spybot S&D

by Swarm32 - 5/9/06 6:54 PM In reply to: Which antispyware utility would you use? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I use this one because it consistently finds the stuff I miss when manually hacking out spyware. Even though it isn't the easiest or most intuitive to use, it does a good job for being free.

Which one would I use?

by Rfinnshw - 5/9/06 6:58 PM In reply to: Spybot S&D by Swarm32

A Mac. For the time being, it's pretty much spyware-free.

For my PC? Adware. A couple of other spyware programs whose names escape me. Why do I need 3 programs on my PC and I don't need any on my Mac?

My spyware

by wbj430jarrett - 5/9/06 7:41 PM In reply to: Spybot S&D by Swarm32

Spybot S & D has without fail stopped all efforts to invade. Is headquartered in Scotland, is free but will accept contributions. I have found Spybot to be simple and easy to operate. Don't know the operators but they are up to date and thus far function flawlessly. Can't say that for others. For first time my anti-virus, firewall and spyware have made computer use trouble free. OS is Microsoft Professional XP. Use Corporate version of Symantec Anti-virus. Machine built to my specs so no brand. mbcanon

Spybot (TeaTimer)

by reifnir - 5/9/06 8:11 PM In reply to: Spybot S&D by Swarm32

Spybot also comes with a system monitoring tool called TeaTimer. Any time that a system change is about to be made, you are given an option to accept or deny (with remember my answer) any of them.

No one single anti spy app does it all, but making informed decisions about setting changes works every time!

Spybot S&D is

Great...

I use it in combination with lavasoft. I even remember the old lavasoft literature encouraging their use together.

which spyware do i use?

by Corky50 - 5/26/06 4:31 AM In reply to: Spybot S&D by Swarm32

spybot search and destroy with tea timer active...zone alarm and AVG 7.1 free really do knock down most attacks...except for the damn microsoft adware from the ''defender''...i have mcafee virus scan and privacy service as well. i don't see pop ups, i don't have spyware and i control how things are updated...tea timer tells you when something is trying to change your registry....zone alarm lets you control which programs can auto update without permission. and which programs are trying to access the web. really the key is watching where you surf...even if you clean out your cookies...you still have some...and if you are not blocking most cookies...you are not controlling your pop-ups, ad unders, etc. and if you leave your computer up all the time...when do your programs update? you probably need to reboot a couple of times a week to make sure you have the most recent updates. when virus software and spyware update...there is a reason...new info..which means new attacks.
if you play in the trash can, expect a fair share of garbage

Webroot Spysweeper is worth the money.

by charles431 - 5/9/06 6:58 PM In reply to: Which antispyware utility would you use? by Marc Bennett Moderator

In several instances when I have helped friends who had spyware infections, SpySweeper cleared them up. AdAware, Spybot S&D, and the first Microsoft beta, while they are free, all failed.

It's easy to find Spysweeper free with rebates or deeply discounted.
