dual layer dvd burning

by JoeA10 - 5/8/06 10:44 AM

I have a lacie double layer dvd burner.
I have a pack of memorex double layer dvds. About
every other one ends up not writing. After waiting
hours for them to write at the end it says no seek
complete or something like that and then the disc is
done and can't be used again. Why does this happen?
Is it the dvds or the burner? Does it have anything
to do with burning speed? my burner say it is 16x and the
discs can write at 2.4x so what should i be burning at? also
should it take 6+ hours for the movies to burn??
thanks

Like you're having a buffer overrun of some kind.

i had that problem on my 3 year old comp

a few months ago. specs: Winxp Pro Sp2,asus p4c800 edelux, 3.2ghz p4 800mhz fsb, 1gig dual channel memory, 2 120gb 7200rpm's in raid 0, 9600xt ati card, and a pioneer dvd burner.

of course it didnt take six hours to burn a disk (then again i didnt have a dual layered burner). but after the data is burnt onto the disk, i get that same error. the disk wouldnt finish and i had about 20 coasters in the garbage can. i was using the latest version of nero to burn.

i upgraded the bios for the mobo and the firmware for the dvd burner. same problem. it wouldnt burn images, data, or anything. since the drive was 3 years old, i felt like getting a new one. so i got a plextor dual layered. still the same problem.

just for the hell of it, i decided to get a new powersupply too. 3 years ago, i didnt know anything about anything. so i got a generic 380watt powersupply. the new one i got was an antec 520watt powersupply. i guess that solved the problem cause i have yet to get that problem ever since i upgraded power supplies.

I'd put your post in a Mac forum and ...

Spare no detail. There is so much not told in your post that you may get frustrated as people ask for all the info.

But I'd call this post to a close (your choice) and put a proper full details post in one of the Mac forums.

Change you medium

I had the same problems. I switched to the Verbatim line of DVD+R DL medium, and my problems went away. I guess it depends on what burner you have, but in my pioneer units...they work every time. They like the verbatim medium best. My older CD burners show the same predelection for verbatim medium. Just try it, and notice the difference.
