Are these any good indoors? Specifically the $20 one. I'll need it pretty much for only for one weekend for connecting with friends.

Which phone are you referring to as "the $20 one"? Tracfone doesn't have a whole lot of options... like any other pre-paid situation, you have to buy the phone, then the card. I see a $20 card... is that what you're looking at?
A pre-paid phone like that will use a network owned by a major carrier... so as long as the coverage from, for example, Cingular or Sprint is okay, I'm sure you'll have service indoors.
I got one for my daughter who's in high school and she loves it, Target still carries these but I've noticed dollar-general has them and for a basic no frills phone they can't be beat. highly recommended
