my cable modem(my modem, not comcast) stop working(can't go online) with comcast.
which cable modem should I buy? or should rent comcast modem?
Thanks
with Comcast. Make sure the modem is compatable. I have the DCM-202 and my speed increased from 3 Mb/s to over 6 Mb/s. This from the D-link site:
The DCM-202 High-Speed DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem brings the ultimate performance from your “always-on” broadband connection. With TurboDOX™ bandwidth acceleration software, movies stream with less breakup, email attachments load faster, and downloads are more consistent. The DCM-202 makes your broadband connection more efficient and effective by clearing network congestion, resulting in a boost in the download speeds. The DCM-202 is DOCSIS® 2.0 CableLabs® Certified™, which ensures compatibility with all DOCSIS compatible cable providers. The DCM-202 is also backwards compatible with the DOCSIS 1.1/1.0 standard.
Any cable modem that supports the new protocol will work, but I like D-link. The new protocol is addressed at the Comcast site and the DCM-202 is one of the few modems suggested to be used.
For a few years, Comcast has been using Molorola's SURFboard brand. That's probably what you currently have I'd stick with that type, because I know there won't be any conflict issues.
As far as renting, I think (not sure, but it makes sense) that in the long run, buying a new modem will be cheaper.
Have you contected comcast to see if you can PURCHASE one through them? Maybe you'll get a discount, since you're a current customer.
