ZA Security Suite 6 - Locks Up Computer at Start Up

by M_Oppie - 4/15/06 4:03 PM

April 8 - April 15: New ZASS causes computer to lockup at load. One week into this no closer to the fix. Unloaded all other security SW. Did 'clean' uninstall/reinstall twice pre ZL Tech Support. If power down with 'load at startup' checked, it is 1 to 4 hours of problems getting computer to load up. Can anyone suggest ZASS settings that can cause this. Appears nothing external to ZASS is the cause. Atleast Norton loads automatically...Forgetting to load manually is going to happen...and unloaded security s/w is no better than none at all.

See forum under Installatioin/Reinstall at ZL forum titled "Help..." for the details.

Appreciate any input.

Just wondering.

If by Norton you mean the usual suite, it has a firewall too.

Just like your antivirus, please install only 1 antivirus and 1 firewall.

Zone alarm

You said you have Norton, which is an anti virus.Your Zone alarm suite 6 is also an anti virus, hence a conflict.

You should not run two anti viruses.

I have zone alarm (freebie)which has a lock (on top there is a picture of a lock),maybe you have it locked

I believe s/he meant they ''used to have'' Norton..

by Carol~ Moderator - 4/15/06 8:00 PM In reply to: ZA Security Suite 6 - Locks Up Computer at Start Up by M_Oppie

and switched to ZA, which was not made clear here, but was here.

'I have spent 48 hours regretting (so far) switching from Norton to ZA Security Suite. After inital install it took 4 hours to reboot(including lockups and power downs). After uninstall and reinstall same thing happened...and twice more. The problem is at start up. As soon as the desktop appears everthing comes to a halt. Most of the time I cannot even select my control panel to uninstall because everything is frozen'

Unless I'm mistaken..

And later they wrote...

"Atleast Norton loads automatically.."

This is where the details fail us. Since the gritty details are absent and I know that most can't wipe out Norton my thoughts are that either something was left behind or they were telling us that Norton is still loading automatically.

And later I thought..

how interesting it was, that I was spending time searching to find, what someone actually meant, as opposed to searching for answers to a problem. :p I guess in due time, we will know. Or.. not.

Clarification and solution?

by M_Oppie - 4/18/06 8:56 PM In reply to: And later I thought.. by Carol~ Moderator

If the last note was meant for me, I apoligize for not reading it sooner. Any free time I had to spend on the PC was trying start up and fix my ZASS.

OK, so it looks like it was unclear whether I stil had norton or not. I unloaded (clean unload) per Norton website. No other firewall (XP or otherwise), spybot, ewido, ad-aware etc on my computer.

With a selected start-up selecting only the ZASS zlclient.exe at startup same lock up happened as normal start. I firmly feel this indicates an internal setting in ZASS that was incorrectly set at installation. The problem is ZL Tech support would never address my questions about specific settings. Rather, they sent scripted replys encourageing me to uninstall/reinstall etc.

9 days later, w/ ABYSMAL ZL Tech support not helping at all, I uninstalled and loaded a ZL competitor. Albeit one not as well rated, though it works on my PC like everything but the ZASS.

Also, Thanks for the comments

One last note, ZASS ran perfectly when started MANUALLY after PC startup (this is an optional setting). It is a very nice program, but I forgot once to manually load after being on line for an hour and decided most ANY fire wall that loaded automatically is superior to one that I forget to load manually...

If not for the start up problem when set to "automatically load at pc start up" I would ahve been very happy with this program.

M_oppie.. Good to hear you're ''back in business'' !

albeit without ZA. You said, 'ANY fire wall that loaded automatically is superior to one that I forget to load manually'. A wise choice, in my opinion. And I can understand your frustration with tech support.. if one chooses to call it that. ;)

Best of luck to you..
