Calculations with mail merged data in word 2002

by harringnail - 4/17/06 10:04 AM

So I'm trying to make a Proposal document that includes customer, work description, and price data. My problem is manipulating the mail merged data to produce sub totals and totals. I've been reduced to trial and error on a test sheet, so I came here to ask for help. Am I even vaguely on the right track?

INPUT:

Price1: { MERGEFIELD "PRICE1" }
Price2: { MERGEFIELD "PRICE2" }
Sub1: { FORMTEXT {=MERGEFIELD PRICE1+MERGEFIELD PRICE2}}
Rebate1: { MERGEFIELD "wIP_UD1" }
Total1: { FORMTEXT {=MERGEFIELD PRICE1+MERGEFIELD PRICE2-MERGEFIELD WIP_UD1}}

Price3: { MERGEFIELD "PRICE3" }
Price4: { MERGEFIELD "PRICE4" }
Sub2: { FORMTEXT {=MERGEFIELD PRICE3+MERGEFIELD PRICE4}}
Rebate2: { MERGEFIELD "wIP_UD2" }
Total2: { FORMTEXT {=MERGEFIELD PRICE3+MERGEFIELD PRICE4-MERGEFIELD WIP_UD2}}

Price5: { MERGEFIELD "PRICE5" }
Price6: { MERGEFIELD "PRICE6" }
Sub3: { FORMTEXT {=MERGEFIELD PRICE5+MERGEFIELD PRICE6}}
Rebate3: { MERGEFIELD "wIP_UD3" }
Total3: { FORMTEXT {=MERGEFIELD PRICE5+MERGEFIELD PRICE6-MERGEFIELD WIP_UD3}}

{FORMTEXT {=MERGEFIELD "PRICE1"+MERGEFIELD "PRICE2" }}
{FORMTEXT {={MERGEFIELD "PRICE1"+MERGEFIELD "PRICE2"} }}
{FORMTEXT {={{MERGEFIELD "PRICE1"}+{MERGEFIELD "PRICE2"}} }}

{MERGEFIELD {="PRICE1" + "PRICE2" }}
{MERGEFIELD {{PRICE1}+{PRICE2}}}
{FORMTEXT{{PRICE1}+{PRICE2}}}
{MERGEFIELD{{"PRICE1"}+{"PRICE2"}}}
{FORMTEXT{{"PRICE1"}+{"PRICE2"}}}
{MERGEFIELD {=PRICE1+PRICE2}}
{MERGEFIELD =PRICE1+PRICE2}

OUTPUT:

Price1: 500.00
Price2: 600.00
Sub1: $t1.00
Rebate1: 300.00
Total1: $t1.00

Price3: 400.00
Price4: 500.00
Sub2: $t.00
Rebate2: 400.00
Total2: $t.00

Price5: 300.00
Price6: 400.00
Sub3: $t.00
Rebate3: 500.00
Total3: $t.00

$t.00
$t.00
$t.00

Personally, I would ...

do all the calculations in Excel (can do up to 64.000 rows, which might be enough for your proposal), then either print the spreadsheet or do a mail-merge including the calculated results.

If less than 20 lines, I might just as well do the calculations manually.
