HDMI & "Older" Denon Receiver
by philsmith - 3/31/06 12:39 PMI'm going with either a 42" or a 37" Pana PX60U. Only question is where to purchase it and how to hook it up to my receiver. I doubt that my 3 yr. old Denon 1803 Receiver has an HDMI input. In that case, do I just use component inputs with the special adapters that I've read about on this forum?

If you don't want to spend too much money on getting a Denon that does it, get a Yamaha HTR-5990 on Ebay brand new for about 500 bucks. It has 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out and I believe it also has 3 sets of component inputs along with optical and the rest of the stuff you already have on your old Denon.
the biggest reason why you would want to use a receiver to do HDMI switching is because every signal that is fed into the receiver gets sent to the tv at as an upconverted 1080i signal, so the picture looks a bit better.

My new toshiba will do both I and P and watching Discovery h,d, theater in 1080I is mindblowing I dont see how much better 1080P would look I guess we will have to wait and see what blue ray looks like good luck stewart

HDMI & New Receiver

Also new HDCP/AACS Anti-Piracy encrption may not work through receiver (or any other switching).
I like keeping the video and audio connections souce to display direct, and I feel fiber optic is superior than running it through an HDMI cable.
You old DENON (I have a 3805) surely has fiber optic for the audio. You can use DVI or HDMI for the video.

I just bought a 5.1. Atlantic Techonology 4200 speaker system with my Denon And the dealer was nice to me He set up everything for me, brought over the special microphone and did a auto set up which e.q. and balanced all 6 speakers. The only problem is I have to change the remote control batteries every two month that remote light display really tears up the batteries ha ha, but the Denon and A/T speakers are a match made in heaven good luck top you stewart
