One which I gave my brother in law as his first, but my Sony DSC F717 I will probably not get another camera. Great camera for virtually every situation.
Is the memory card (memorystick) still avaiable only in 128mbs?
Fortunately memory sticks can now be had at 256, 512MB as well as 1GB - and, I think 4GB - expensive, though! But the 1GB has come down in price, especially if you buy the Sandisk or Lexar brand which work just as well.
Olympus--which I lost, and Canon which I presently have.
I own 3 digital cameras that I constantly use:
- Nikon CoolPix 4300
- Panasonic FZ-20
- Panasonic FZ-30
I`d sure like to get some feedback from people who have the 20 or 30 Panasonic. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Especially Sergio Reis
as you have both plus the Nikon. Which one does the best for ? Which is faster, etc Yellowhand
My first digital was a Toshiba PDR-M4 purchased in Spring 1999, very basic. As I didn't know much about digitals I chose the brand that matched my laptop. I am a genealogist and had the previous summer shot 12 rolls of 35mm on family photos, gravestones only to find when I got home that 20 frames were useable. The digital was a Godsend as I knew immediately whether I had to re-shoot and as any genealogist know you often don't have a second chance to record those records. That one died a horrible death, literally catching on fire during the first hour of charging the in-situ battery. My second digital was a Canon S30, that was worlds ahead of the Toshiba. My stills were awesome with 1.7 Mpixels and now I could make short 2 minute movies. I could also shoot photos of paper documents which copying records not only less expensive but quicker. That camera (2.5 years old)was stolen from my vehicle while on vacation last summer, thankfully with everything already downloaded to computer. It's replacement,a Canon S2IS is fantastic. I can shoot movies,up to 1 hour, with the 1GB memdisk. With an attachment, different lenses can be added and having manual setups make it similar to my Konica T3 SLR. I do carry both the Canon and Konica when shooting in Kananaskis Country and Banff National Park but find that the digital is more universal, especially for the movie component and as it is getting harder to find outlets for 35mm film.
I have a T-4, TCx, and FS-1. BTW, how do you get batteries for the T-3?
I started using the Konica T-4 after comparing it to the Canon AE-1. I thought I got more for my $. It is unfortunate that all my 35mm lenses and filters for those cameras are not useable with my DSLR, a Canon EOS Rebel 350D.
I thought I had owned 4 and answered the survey as such but forgot about the original low end Olympus that one of my daughters now has. This one has been dropped, has a piece of aluminum holding the battery cover closed but still works fine. The second was a Nikon 3100 that my wife drove into the mud face first in Scotland when she did a fanny plant. Repairs were estimated to be more than the NEW replacement Nikon 3200. I did buy a replacement 3100 cheap on eBay so I could use all the CF cards that we had accumulated. Last year when I retired and bought myself a retirement present, a Nikon D70 (again, to use all those CF cards and my many Nikon AF mount lenses). Every one of these cameras have been great. The second 3100 has a tendency to quickly use up rechargeable batteries, and I believe there is a recall, but with a D70, why bother. If I want to be creative, I do use my N80 film camera, but those times are getting fewer and fewer since Photoshop can ''fix'' that feeling easily
It has been 2 years since I acquired a Sony Cypershot. I use it often and really love it.
I was intimidated by it at first, but since my granddaugher was visiting for the Christmas holidys she started using it right away. I had all the literature, but she seemed like such an expert on using. When I asked how much experience she had with one, she replied that all electronic stuff had it's similarities and she was learning as she used mine, which was her first time to use one. So we all gathered out $ and got her own that Christmas. It was the best way to get my back into my own hands.
She has done her school newspaper photos with hers and even brought back some pictures she took in Europe.
Neither of us has ventured off into another one---yet. There are other things that keep up busy in the updating game, like Ipods, laptops, etc.
2-3 years back I bought a Sony DSC-717. It's a 5 Mega Pixel 5X optical Zoom beauty. Pictures are great and it allows me to do significant cropping and enlargement w/o losisng resolution. Unless damaged or stolen, I think I'll be using it for years.
We have had a Samsung 3.2meg.pix. for 2-3 years now and are quite happy with the quality of the shots received through its small, but adequate lens. I personally feel, because I do a lot of photography, and make the images into musical slide shows onto DVD, that a larger lens would be the go. But imaging programs seem to tweak most up to par, so will hang with this one for the time being. Love your info and forum.
I started out thirty years ago, in weddings, owning my own business for ten of those. Then I only shot med. format. But soon found it cumbersome for general use, and bought a 35mm SLR (tried a 35mm rangefinder before that- that took some getting used to!) for outdoor activity. Yes that was all film, but now I and my new family are all digital. My wife and biz partner shoots a Canon 5D with all Canon lenses; my son graduated from a olympus p&s 3mp to a Rebel w/5mp (he now says he's shooting with a real camera); and I shoot a Canon 10D, also with all Canon lenses. You might say we're a "Canon Family" as even the film cameras we own are Canons. We have owned at least two digital cameras each, my wife having owned three, and we wouldn't go back, or exchange them for any other brand of digital equipment. It's our livelyhood.
ALL my cameras have been Olympus, I just kept moving up from 1.3 to 2.0 to 3.0 to 7.0..I have loved them all and love the pics that they take, I have over 11 gigs of pics I have taken.
