Wanted to say thank you so much I joined to be able to. Spotted a Gigxon 12MP digital camera on E-Bay 10 mins ago.. wasn't sure about it so I googled Gigxon and this post came up. You have just saved me from wasting my money. This site is priceless so thanks again. Will be using this service in future before any purchases.. especially on the Bay.
I spent many hours resarching cameras and their capabilities before buying on ebay. CNET was the very best site I found for comparing different cameras, their quality, problems, and price ranges. All the research was WELL worth my time as I'm very happy with the camera I got (Kodak Z760) from Kodak's factory outlet on eBay. I'm a new amateur who has wanted for years to learn more about taking good photos, and the courses offered by CNET have been marvelous. And this site steered me away from cameras like Gixon, SVP, and all the other one that advertise interpolated Megapixel values as if they were real. Without this site and forum, I might have bought a cheap, poor quality camera instead of the nice camera I got for my first digital.

recently took delivery of 8 mp SVP camera from lindas camera world on ebay and worked great right out of the box no prob. It is one of the newest models so I cant say much about the older models or drivers for same but the drivers sent worked first time on my windows XP, do have a card reader though and faster to just plug 1 gig card from camera in that way as mass storage device. MP3 player funtion also works great if you use headphones, speaker too small to be of much use outdoor video not bad inside not so. But as camera I've taken about 600 or so pics so far (havent printed out that many of course) and the ones I have printed out great qaulity, very sharp.
Happy with mine works great and lots of features, so far very good product for the price.
I have never seen an 8 megapixel camera with SVP's name on it.
What is the model number?
Check the specifications sheet.
If it says 8 megapixel interpolated, you are the victim of misleading advertising.

.
the model number for the 8mp are cdc-8610 and cdc-8630
The SVP website says that both of those cameras have 6 megapixel sensors.
To call the cameras 8 megapixels would be misleading.
It is disappointing to see that SVP and its sellers continue to mislead the public with their advertising.

Having a large megapixel count doesnt mean anything, unless you are making large prints. I own a Nikon D50 Digital SLR camera, 6.1 megapixels. My nikon would smash that toy of a camera made by SVP any day, no matter what pics are being taken. The thing about technology, why waste money on a hunk of junk when you can spend money on something that will last 10 years. And as for that 6 megapixel sensor, ok, lets just say it produces 6 megapixels, that really doesnt mean anything if the QUALITY of the sensor is terrible, which in the case of SVP, they are. SVP makes cheapy cameras, then tries to call them great cameras, so they can make massive profit. It likely costs 50 cents to make one of those pieces of junk, and then they sell them for 100 or more dollars... if u are smart, u would see, they are in it for money, not for quality of their product.
Why do you bother selling these crappy cameras? Do yuo really think that your cameras will EVER add up to what a Nikon or Canon can? if so, you are in for a dose of reality. Go take some pictures with a Nikon Coolpix model or P-model, and you will see what TRUE QUALITY comes from a CCD sensor that produces TRUE QUALITY. So why do you try and fight reality? Oh, I forgot, u think u are going to get rich off of selling junk. Ha. good luck with that.
One, and only one, post within 5 minutes after joining cnet.
It really doesn't matter to me either way whether these cameras are the best thing since sliced bread or the biggest piece of crap to hit the market. However, it seems the only response anyone can come up with to the few people who actually do like this camera is "Another SVP crap shill alert". Or something to that affect. How about actually posting intelligent arguments like the interpolated explanation rather than just saying "This thing sucks". Seems to me if you know enough about technology to comment on these cameras then you should be able to post something slightly more intelligent.
months old? There have been several posts recently from people who actually got suckered into buying the things. Perhaps you should respond to them.
The con game played with interpolation has been explained several times. Perhaps you should do a search?
DOnt EVER call this camera 8 Megapixels. It will never have that kind of picture power. As for sharp and vivid, a 20 dollar piece of **** can take clear and vivid pics, but you will never be able to print them out and get a decent print, you wont even be able to blow it up on your computer screen without it becoming pixelised. Before posting, how about quitting your job at SVP and buy a Nikon. THEN you will experience good pics.
My recommendation is to avoid purchasing the SVP Video camera. Seller on ebay ''cccampos'' AVOID. Many hidden issues with camera , software does not work - Drivers incompatible , If you live in the UK , the plug incompatible and may be charged customs (all unannounced hidden extras).
Zoom on the camera is jerky and Zoom in pixels are absolutely rubbish , and not even worth zooming in. Low light filming also rubbish. Personally I think this is only a small step up from a childs toy. No such thing as 12 mb (Only 3.1 mega pixels)
Additionally Seller only leaves feedback based on your feedback to them , and not the transaction.
Im not bitter but the Camera is absolutely rubbish and may as well pay the extra and get a decent one.
I too got sucked in to buying this camera-I got a ''Second chance'' auction-what a joke-this is her business. And the camera-is a joke-you have to load their specific software in order to view your pictures, when I tried to pull a picture up in XP it simply states that the image is too large-and if the person was correct in stating that the image was just ''larger'' not better quality make sense.
According to her other feedback on eBay and her e-mails to me she is a very rude witch! Her emails were hard to read and decipher due to bad grammar and incomplete thoughts and changing her mind in mid-sentence along with very broken english. She couldn’t decide whether she would work with me or not-depending on the mood she was in. She would send several e-mails in one day within minutes of each other saying completely different things; I think she had confused me with someone else. I think she is just very confused. She has no idea what good customer service is.
I paid for my transaction as soon as I ''Won'' it. When I got the camera the ''zoom'' feature didn’t work. I wrote her an email the following day-she told me to send it to the manufacture for repair-although her policy simply states that she will exchange for ''defective equipment''. So I left truthful negative feedback because she wouldn’t hold to her own policy, so she left me negative feedback based on lies.
I don’t understand how eBay allows these kinds of sellers to stay on! This woman finally (after about 5 e-mails to her) agreed to exchange it-now she wants to mutually withdraw both or our negative feedback, there is no way I will do that after her rudeness and lack of customer service.
One last comment-I would encourage all who did business with her to comment on how their transaction went-just curious on how it went-according to her feedback-she acts this way a lot. And curious on what you think of the camera.
