i am looking for a new digital camera. currently i have a sony cybershot dsc-p100. it is 5 megapixels.
price range: $500 or less
size: preferably compact or ultra compact
i heard the canon a610 takes great pictures but it is too big.
i will not be printing big pictures, i normally like 4x6 but it would be nice to have the possibility of getting a decent big picture if i'd like one (so preferably higher than 5 megapixels)
basically my MAIN concern is that the image quality is superb (or as good as it can be with a tiny camera).
so basically sharp images and i would like it to pick up the color and not dull it out (i've noticed that some canon point and shoots do this?).
any suggestions? thanks!
For Superb images you will have to go to a larger size camera.
In the ultracompact cameras...
...take a look at the new Olympus Stylus 710.
To my eyes the second best would be the SD550 (none of the other SD series is as good as the SD550).

.
so the Olympus Stylus 710 is supposed to give the best quality images for it's size?
if i were to go a little bit bigger and get a compact do you have any reccomendations for that?
In the under $600 price range:
I find the images from the Canon G6 to be especially good.
It is not a small camera.

I have a Olympus c8080 8MP and it takes remarkable pics. the lens on it is high quality. A little larger that pocket types but I have traveled with it and it is not a problem They are out of production now but I think still available on ebay. Unfortunatly people have found out about them and the price has gone up on them I paid 460.00 new in 2/05
