Epson is the best for me

by Salva - 4/4/06 8:36 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have three printers Epson CX3200 and one Epson R300.

I am very happy with them because I can recharge the cartridges and the quality is really photographic! I have saved a lot of money! I print photos mainly.

I bought the CX3200 two years ago and the R300 almost one year ago and I never have had to buy new cartridges. I recommend totally the Epson printers.

I have owned the HP all in one printer, scanner, copier for over a year now and have not had a single problem with it. I don't print do any of the above too often but when I do it works great. Even the scans come out pretty good. For basic all in one useage I highly recommend it.

HP

I use a new HP Photosmart 3310 All-in One Printer. It does everything except wax my car! It is fast, and the print quality is SUPERB! It prints photos of varying sizes. These photos are better than those I've purchased at photo stores.

I love my Canon MP780...I will NEVER buy HP ANYTHING again!

by TooSpooky - 4/4/06 8:54 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I just got tired of being ripped off by the time limitations of the HP ink cartridges...even if they
were not empty they would not print beyond a certain date!!! Printers with individual color cartridges are the way to go.

They all rob you blind!

by tek-ed - 4/4/06 9:00 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I had (have) an HP 720C one of the first photo quality color ink jet printers...and I loved that the printer was easy to use and network (it now serves as a network printer for my home network and generalized printing) I now own an ePSON c82...An inexpensive photo quality printer using seperate ink canistors...I chose this model because the HP printers ink cartridges are so darn expensive! $45 for a black and $50 for a tree color cartridge where usually only one color ran out! For this reason, I went with a printer with seperate cartridges. For $99 I got a decent printer and 4 cartridges...and not starter cartridges either! I've replaced them many times now...but just the other day, I went to a local store to get new cartridges and gasp! they wanted $36 for a black cartridge! And the seperate color cartridges were almost $15 each! That's $80 for all new cartridges! Luckily they had 3rd party ink but that cost me $50! For the price of cartridges, I might as well purchase a new printer!
I know that the printer companies use the schick razor method of profiteering...sell the razor cheap and charge a mint for the blades, but I think that the printer companies have it backwards...It costs more to make a printer than it does to make ink cartridges, so it would behoove the printer companies to maximize their profits by banking on loyalty. Make printers cost what they cost and charge a reasonable price for the ink...Printer companies are complaining that they aren't making enough money on ink, well for good reason! When I go to a store and see a yellow cartridge running $15 from the manufacturer and $10 from a 3rd party...that's a no-brainer!

Alternatives to the rip-off

by mandrewwhiteman - 4/6/06 10:17 AM In reply to: They all rob you blind! by tek-ed

I have read that there is more profit in the ink than the printer! Many HP printers have the print head in the ink cartridge which adds to the cost!

I suggest you check out:
http://www.shopwhiteman.us/Ink.html
and order:
1) a refill envelope: You mail the empty cartridge to a company that refills it and mails it back. That is what I do with my HP cartridges
or
2) order a 3rd party cartridge.

Printer ink

by Dena Yuriga - 4/6/06 8:15 PM In reply to: Alternatives to the rip-off by mandrewwhiteman

I did the same thing with my Canon S800 printer for awhile when all of a sudden my photos came out too red or too green or too blue. I had to run it through the deep cleaning cycle about a dozen or more times to get all of that bad ink off of my print heads. I have 6 ink tanks in my printer that run, at the most, $11.99. I only have to change the color that runs out which saves a whole lot of money. They now have a printer with 8 colors. it is more expensive than what I paid for the one I have, but that will be my next printer. I suggest that next time you buy a printer, buy one where each color in in a separate cartridge.

I agree about printers with seperate colors!

by mandrewwhiteman - 4/7/06 5:27 PM In reply to: Printer ink by Dena Yuriga

I started with an Epson Stylus Color 400. The color cartridge was expensize and contained 3 colors. One color always ran out before the other 2 so part of the cartridge was wasted. The next printer was an Epson Stylue C82 with 3 color cartridges + black. It is sure great to replace one cartridge with out wasting the other two.

HP PhotoSmart 8450

by trossen - 4/4/06 9:03 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

This printer is very reliable and also hooks up via CAT 5 to our router. Anyone on the wireless net can access it.

This is E-Net input is rarely found on an any quality Photo Printer at Staples in this price range!

For best photos, switch out the black everyday print cartridge for a photo quality gray tone and you can print professional looking 8X10s" on HP Photo Paper. It comes with a cartridge saver adapter to use for the cartridge you take out and store within the lid. Staples brand photo paper is much thinner and prints too light.

This HP 8450 was being cleared out of Staples for $129.00 when I bought it. It was brand new in an unopened box! The HP 8450 features all the various photo card input slots and also has a 2.5" X 2.5" pop up LCD Screen. It can also be used as a backup unit for any of the PCs or Laptops wirelessly with the proper size card installed.

After the clearance sale price and the rebates from Staples and HP, I paid $63 for this brand new printer. I also got free photo and regular paper too! This was well within my office printer budget!

It prints quietly and smoothly. I wish it were faster though when printing photos!

Samsung ML-2010

by irignak - 4/4/06 9:03 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I've got a samsung ML-2010. I spent 120 for it new, I have it hooked up to my linux server (800 mhz PIII). It prints at 22ppm and looks beautiful. Its much better than the HP Laserjets that we use at school. But I think thats a driver issue. The replacement toner cartriges cost 80 bucks but u get 3K sheets out of em. I got 1156 sheets ouf of the one that came with it and it was only 1/3 full. I've got it setup over the network with cups as an IPP printer so everything can print to it flawlessly from my mac laptop over to my sister's windows laptop then jumping over to my linux desktop. They all work wonderfully. I got an excellent buy for my money.

What brand of Printer ........

by standeb - 4/4/06 9:15 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

Marc

I own Epson Stylus C65 with Photoquicker features.

I am extremely happy with it.

I am now thinking of purchasing the larger type for my work purposes.

They are a bit slow but durable and gives me the best quality prints.

Love my HP

by Jo Billups - 4/4/06 9:18 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have an HP 7550 photoprinter that is just outstanding! Even though it's a little older, it's fast, quiet, and prints beautifully. After my old slow and noisy Epson, I'll stick with HP forever!

HP LaserJet 5l

by back_water_tech - 4/4/06 9:21 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

since i received this little devil, i have let the ink tanks dry up in my crappy inkjet printer (also an HP)

Trust me, Once You go Laser (printers) you'll never want to go back to a inkjet again.

;) I have an HP Laserjet 4500 for color, too. no more inkjets for me. they are just too damn expensive in the long run.

Both of my printers can print between 5,000 to 10,000 prints on a toner cartridge. the 5l does my heavy lifting for black and white prints and the 4500 does whatever color i need.

show me an inkjet that does more than 500 prints on a tank and i'll show you a liar.

toner for 5l = 55 bucks. ink for my inkjet = 595 bucks
thats a hefty difference for printing 5000 pages

:D just my two cents

Canon Printers Only From Now Until Forever!

by Clydar - 4/4/06 9:21 PM In reply to: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it? by Marc Bennett Moderator

For ease of setup, print quality, photo printing, ink savings, and just plain durability, the Canon printers will forever be the only printer for me.

The ability to change only the ink tank color you've used up is a huge plus for this machine. I know that I've saved a small fortune on ink, as I've had 4 different Canon printers over the past 15 years. That's definitely not a bad track record at all. Started with the old BJC200, went to a BJC4000, have a BJC4300 that I'm repairing (paper tray out of sync) and I've been using a i550 for the past 3 years. Does what I want for as long as I want.

I've used my friend's Epson and my mother (god rest her soul) bought a Lexmark for me. Both had ink carts that cost more than the printer, which was the huge down side, as well as the definite setup problems and ease of use issues.

So, for as long as they sell them, my printer of choice will always be the Canon line. Thanks for letting me get on my soapbox all!
