indoor HDTV amplified antenna,,,need help
by Chilepeppa - 4/3/06 11:52 AMbadly need help..I have a sharp aquos HDTV READY ..BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FEATURES..I AM A SUBSCRIBER OF DIRECT TV WITH OUT HD,,I HEARD THAT AN INDOOR HD AMPLIFIER ANTENNA WOULD DO THE TRICK..I ALSO WOULD LOVE TO RECEIVE LOCAL CHANNELS..PLEASE HELP! TELL ME WHAT GADGET OR TYPE OF ANTENNA TO USE,,THERES A LOT OF THEM OUT THERE BUT I NEED SOMETHING THAT IS THE BEST AND WORTH THE HARD EARNED MONEY...THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

If you call direct t.v. they should upgrade your system to hi-def free or mabey a small fee. But be aware I had a standard direct t.v. system for 5 years . after I bought my hi-def t.v. I called them and they wanted $500 for an upgrade, So I called the Dish Netrwork and they installed there system for $49.00 and gave me a $49.00 credit on my billing, If you go with the dish system order there new 211 box, you will receive all your network stations in hi-def free. You are going to love the hi-def package great programs Also ask about VOOM I pay $5.00 per month extra for it anyway good luck stewart

by masterying01 - 4/3/06 8:53 PM In reply to: indoor HDTV amplified antenna,,,need help by Chilepeppaa good antenna (depending on how far you're away from the broadcast stations) will be around $50. but since your tv is only HD ready, you will need to buy a seperate HD Tuner to process the over the air signals. those boxes are $200+. so thats $250 right there.
i know nothing of dish, but know quite a lot about directtv so i'll talk about direct tv. the HD box from direct tv is $99. you are an existing customer, so you dont get mail in rebates. an extra $9.99 will be added to your bill. all these DIRECTTV hd boxes will have that over the air HD TUNER built in for an antenna. but that tuner will only work when you activate the box so you can't just buy the box and not subscribe to it.
for the newer mpeg 4 boxes, it will allow you to pull in HD local channels without an antenna if its available in your area so there is no need to go safari hunting for a good antenna. plus you'll get a bunch of HD channels like discovery, espn, hd net, and most premium channels. dish network will have much more channels, but if you're still in a 2 year contract with direct t, or if u dont want to buy new equipment for dishnetwork, i wouldnt recommend switching services.
sharp aquos are great tv's, but its realllllllly bad for standard dfinition which is what you have now. $100 up front plus $9.99 a month will make your jaw drop and you will enjoy your tv that much more.
