I surprised my wife with a Kodak EasyShare DX6340 (3.1 megapixels) two years ago. She loves it.
The flash quit working two months ago, effectively stopping all those cute grandchildren indoor shots.
Kodak tells us that it will cost $105 to repair the camera. They also stated that we could buy a reconditioned DX6340 for $200.
First, it this a common problem for digital cameras?
Second, it seems to me that I could spend $200-$300 and get a new camera. We take a lot of typical family gathering/flower garden shots, so we don't need an upscale model. What do you think?
Thanking you in advance.

Having a flash failure is not a common problem, but I have seen a few reports of this on various cameras.
The DX6340 was a very nice camera and was later updated with the DX7440.
Now that has been updated with the Z730.
Progress in the digital camera world means more camera for less money.
Here are the specifications for the three cameras mentioned above:

You can get the Z730 (5 megapixels - 4X zoom) for around $240 (even less if you shop around).
It has a larger LCD (2.2 inches).

I had a 35mm camera that I had repaired once or twice. So far, short of that original Brownie, not many cameras are free from failures.

Hello,
I actually have the same situation that you have. I have done research on this problem and it seems many other people have this problem. The camera does not turn on even with new batteries, if it does turn on, it immediately turns off. The flash does not work either. I am starting a petition, so that Kodak will either repair our cameras at no charge, or replace them at no charge, due to the fact that it is a manufacturers defect. I believe that Kodak sells great products, but it seems as if this one needs to be obsolete. Digital cameras should last many years before anything should go wrong with it. But mine lasted a little over a year. I haven'e been able to use it for months. I don't believe I should pay to have it repaired, when so many of us have the same issue.
You can e-mail me if you want to participate in this petition.
Thanks

My problem is the same. My 6340 just stopped working about two weeks ago. Two different Radio Shacks have been generous and allowed me to try three different 3 volt camera batteries with no success - not even a glimmer. Any idea if there is a specialized version that is more powerful battery?
I did call Kodak and also got the same offer for repair ($105), although they did give me few options for replacement at a cost. I informed them that i was not wild about replacing my 16 month old camera with another Kodak.
Hi,
Have you tried to update the DX6340 camera software?
I feel from memory the upadte program from Kodak for this camera is version 1.1000.
I wonder if possible if the camera's software is corrupted and if you install this update would it correct the problem.
You can check the version installed by clicking = Menu button = Setup = About = [If you have the CD that came with your camera , explore same and view the DX6340 manual].
Hope may help??
