Reformatting

by lawsob - 4/1/06 12:33 PM

I want to reformat my computer, but when I try to, I get an error about the file iastor.sys not being found. I did a file search for it and found the file, so I DO have the file on my computer. Any ideas?

How are you re-formatting the drive?

If it has Windows on it you cannot re-format the drive within Windows itself.

Make sure the boot sequence in the BIOS is set to recognise the CD Drive, boot up to Windows, insert the CD and reboot.

There are a couple of more options here;

None of my business, but may i ask why you want to re-format? Do you want to re-install XP or clean out the hard drive?

If you want to re-install, what problems have you been having?

Mark

What I'm trying to do..

by lawsob - 4/1/06 2:39 PM In reply to: How are you re-formatting the drive? by MarkFlax Moderator

I used the XP disc. I put it in, clicked install Windows XP or whatever, which then gathers data, then shuts down my computer, then it restarts and attempts to install windows. It then comes up with an error about iastor.sys not being found.

I don't know a lot about computers or anything. I don't know how to do anything with BIOS, and I'm afraid to attempt to.

I'm reformatting due to my computer restarting itself suddenly. Last weekend, I was listening to music and whatnot, and my computer just restarted itself. I don't know why. When I submitted the error report, the analysis said it could be due to a driver error. It doesn't give any details or anything, though. I'm hoping that if I reformat the drive, it'll fix it. Not to mention, it could use a cleanup. Too many useless programs/files floating.

I'm not sure which would be better, cleaning out the hard drive, starting fresh, or installing a new thing of windows.

I could use as much help as anyone can give me.
