by absi - 3/25/06 3:17 AMhello folks! i'm on the idea of getting a new digital camera! i've looked on the PowerShot A620 and its so beautiful! Swivel screen, its 7.1 mp lens with the 4x optical zoom lens.. However, i came to know about the E18 error on Canon cameras! i was so sad to know about this. because i'm really looking forward to get this A620, but i'm scared of the E18 problem! Is there a similar camera... Cause' i'm not able to take this camera off my mind to think about other cameras.. But i've seen in the forums that there are some quickfixes... But still i'm scared and donno what to do.. Help me on my decision!!

The E18 problem was occuring on some older model cameras.
It appears that Canon has eliminated the problem from their newer cameras.
There have only been a couple of isolated cases reported to this forum on their newer cameras. The E18 could still show up if you drop the camera, or toss it in the sand. But that is true of all cameras.
The A620 is getting the best owner ratings of any camera I have seen.

hello, thanks for your quick response. i had a look at the site u referred.. but then.. i already own a non-digital SLR camera by Minolta. It's so good and we've never had a problem with it except for the event that it was dropped at the airport on the hard floor with the cover and something got blocked but then it was repaired without much trouble.. but i've been careful with this alone, now i think do i have to be more careful with this A620..than the SLR?! with this E18 problem, does it mean its SO fragile to knocks upon it, does it mean that if its in a pocket and knocks would enable the E18 error? it scares me! i've still got a little while left to decide.. but i want to make a wise decision because i won't be getting another digital camera for a while.. The Minolta SLR is aged over 7 years.. its still perfect!

The older SLR film cameras were built like a tank.
I still have a Canon AE-1 that I have had for over 25 years. Still going strong.
Is the A620 as tough as your Minolta SLR ? ... No!
A digital camera similar to the Minolta SLR will cost about $3,500
The E18 error that Canon was having on their older "A" series of cameras was a badly designed lens motor drive system, and not a case of being fragile.
That mechanism has been redesigned.

OK well I have had the Canon A60 and the A520 and now in nthe process of getting either the A610 and A620 and this is the first I have ever heard of the E18 thing, I had no problems with either of the previous Canon cameras

Looks like my mind is almost made up for the Canon PowerShot A620. I'll confirm back in 2 days approx if my choice is final! At the moment, there's no substitute for it! The A620 only! I'm already excited to get it! Because there's gonna be a lot more possibilities for photography! At the present, used to use my trusty 3650 and the Minolta SLR for photography sessions (its for pastime!).. With the 3650 shooting at 640x480, ill be too glad to have it increased to whatever is higher in the A620! But i guess i'll have to be very careful with it!

New Canon A610

The A610 takes gorgeous photos they are so stunning, I got a 1gig memory card and wow I will never fill it up, well maybe in May when I go on a 7 day cruise to Alaska.................
