I'm using Win XP, and need to know where I can view log on attempts, and more importantly, when my PC is turned on or off. I tried using the Keylogger download, but it doesn't tell me what I want to know. A software suggestion would be appreciated, but I'd really like to know if there's somewhere I can view what's already happened up until now.
Also, is there somewhere I can research what sort of stuff my system should be doing when I'm not around?
R-click my computer and select manage. Click Event viewer. You can select apps, security or system. Click view to set filter parameters such as failed logon attempts.
Am I missing something here? The Event viewer shows me Success Audits for the Network Service when I'm not home...should I be proud that my little machine is still hard at work for me when I'm not home, or paranoid? OK, I'm paranoid by nature anyway...;-)
Just to help explain things a little more, my nutty ex has come into my house several times, so I set up my Logitech cam to do the motion detector thing. I am almost 100% certain this nut might be unplugging my PC to avoid getting busted, and then later, plugging it back up...see?
If you had your account(s) password controlled, then although he/she can still turn the PC off, they cannot restart it. It would stop at the Welcome Screen and ask for a password. Have a look at the User Accounts in the Control Panel for more information.
Beware that there is more than one account with Admin rights. There is an Administrators account that only shows up when the computer is booted into SAFE Mode.
Other than that, (and I accept this is none of my business), you may want to review your household door and window access, and change the locks, etc.
Good luck
Mark
is not pointed in the right direction.Should be able to have it "see" someone before they could access the computer to unplug?? Maybe some rearranging is in order.
