talking on the phone while driving

by darkgamerdx0 - 3/29/06 9:45 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

This is VERY dangerous. I have had 2 near misses with POLICE who were on their cell phones. If they can't handle it I am sure we are all at risk of making a fatal mistake. It's not worth the the risk. Automobiles are loaded guns ....not something to toy with. I say no talking on the phone while driving.

Talking on the phone while driving

by zorbax41 - 3/29/06 10:33 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

I already yell "Just shut up and drive," and other less civil things. There should be a law against it, as well as a law against reading, watching TV, and other activities that impair the mental and physical ability to drive. If someone is at a stop light, ok. And no more ******** about the ability to "multitask."

Cell phones while driving

by temujin41 - 3/29/06 10:46 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have had several near-misses from cell-phone using bozos who drive in a fashion that appears to be a mix of DWI and complete oblivion. Most that I have seen are utterly unaware of others, nor do they appear to care and are often hostile if one objects to their nearly slamming in to you by blowing the horn. My state (CT) has outlawed usage but does not appear to enforce the law - these nitwits are dangerous - if you need to phone, pull off to the side - you wern't crippled before cell phones, why are you now?

PHONE DRIVING

by mjd420nova - 3/29/06 10:56 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

PHONE IN EAR
HEAD UP A$$
GET OFF THE PHONE
AND DRIVE.
I guess that expresses the way I feel. Why don't
people signal their turns, what makes them jam on the brakes for no reason, why do some take miles to get back to speed when a slower car enters the road.
These people have MY life in their free hand, and some with no hands. Do I need to tolerate this??
Yes there should be a law, just like seat belts.
The British found people on the phone while driving are more dangerous than a drunk behind the wheel.

There is a Law

by Seabird - 3/29/06 11:03 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

There is a Law against it in this country Uk, I just wish it was enforced more. Twice in the last couple of months I have seen people nearly knocked down on a zebra crossing near where I live because the driver was on the mobile and not concentrating. It makes my blood boil.

Car kit

by Marcel Bakker - 3/29/06 11:11 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

Here in Holland its against the law to hold the phone to your ear whilst driving. We use car kits or BT head sets. You then have both hands free to control the car and can move your head about to view mirrors and ahead. No car kit....than pull over stop and finish the call....Driving requires your attention, so why use the rest on holding the phone and trying to make a hefty phone call too??????

(NT) I've got an idea.

by ken1129 - 3/29/06 11:20 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

Maybe they should tear down all the cell towers along the highways. That would keep people from using their cell phones while driving.

There ought to be a law...

by tankboy2k - 3/29/06 11:36 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

Living in Arizona, there are very severe penalties for seemingly small crimes, but as of yet, no lawmaker has taken a stand against people that talk on their phone while driving.

It seems to me that so many people take for granted that driving is somewhat hazardous.

Also that people over-estimate their own importance. I could understand if a person was driving and talking, and it was a life or death situation (highly unlikely as that may be), or a short conversation (30 seconds or less), but we've all seen for ourselves people that have protracted conversations while driving.

The question that I would have for those people is just what could be so important that you will risk your life, and mine thank you, by talking while driving.

Talking on the phone while driving

I think all the person needs is a head set, but are they still able to multitask.

What I have seen

by drgbeast - 3/29/06 11:51 AM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

I have seen people talking on cell phones and trying to drive at the same time. I have come close to getting hit by a vehicle with the driver talking on a cell phone. I have seen on several occassions near accidents because of cell phone use while driving.

Let me say this their should be a law against driving and talking on a cell phone. Pull over and talk don't kill someone else.

NO law

by William Coelius - 3/29/06 12:43 PM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

...and no screaming. How's about moderation.
C-phones are great for directions, easing the pressure of being late.etc.
Driving's not the time for long chats.
Drive like an adult..and watch out for those that don't.

Most people have a difficult enough time just driving

by mizswheat - 3/29/06 12:48 PM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

without adding a potentially dangerous distraction. During commute hours the entire focus of the driver needs to be on the highways/freeways. Even multi-million dollar deals and what to buy for Aunt Gert's birthday need to be put on hold. Arriving safely at appointed destinations should be everyone's #1 priority. No cell phones usage while dirving should be made laws in every State - unless the cell phone user has some type of handsfree device available. Even then I'm not sure it's a good idea.

Inflated egos

by Sizzliniz - 3/29/06 1:45 PM In reply to: Talking on the phone while driving by Marc Bennett Moderator

These drivers are egotists. Why else would they THINK they can carry on a conversation and safely drive a vehicle? Get over it! Driving demands 100% attention. No conversation is worthy of your life or that of others. Yesterday I saw one with a phone in one hand and a drink in the other. Maybe talking to the undertaker, making his own funeral arrangements?
