How to install new hard drive into PC with no OS

by rjjone2 - 3/28/06 8:27 PM

I bought a Maxtor SATA 300 GB Model # 6V300F0, because my old hardrive (Maxtor Diamond Max 10 200GB Sata 150) crashed. It would not operate on any system and the "blue screen of death" led me round in circles.
I have installed the new hard drive. Do I format, do I boot off the XP CD-ROM; Do I need a format disk?
I do know that I need help.
I am having "Internet Deprivation"
Anyone out there!!!!!!!
Please help

boot from XP CD-ROM

Well, you should plug the new HDD as master.
Then boot from XP CD-ROM and start the installation.
It's not necessary to format a HDD before installation.

As mentioned, boot from the XP CD and let it install XP. After the installaion it will ask you to activate. Go ahead and do it as the CD is already activated in your name. It should be painless.
