All the tips for Car Cd-Player Care.

by Sikander - 3/28/06 11:21 AM

Okay, I bought a Pioneer DEH-7700 MP brand new about four or five months back for my car. I love the stereo, its beautiful and plays all my mp3's. The thing is, recently I have noticed that it's CD reading power has decreased considerably, it takes quite sometime reading brand new cd's even. It is giving me error-44 again and again on my burned mp3 discs which have been used a little (have a few scratches). It plays audio cd's much more easily. I have stopped playing even minor scratched cd's on it.

The thing is, I know that every lens wears out after some time, but I didn't think that the performance of this stereo will decrease in only 4 months.
I need to know some tips and tricks to make the most out of my cd stereo's lens life, what to do, what not to do, all the tips to save that lens from further deteriorating so fast.

Also, I found out that the sony playstation lens has an "adjustment" for maximum disc reading capability. Do these car cd recievers also have this "adjustment" and can this adjustment go bad gradually with time??
Thanks for your time.

Try a CD lens cleaning disc

I was getting error messages on my DVD burner in my computer until I used a CD cleaning disc. Try one. Maybe you've got a bit of crud statically attached to the lens and it's causing read errors. I think mine is made by Memorex. It's a CD that has a patch of very small brushes on it that skim over the lens and cleans it. I think it cost $10.
