On the one hand, I feel like saying YOU S.O.B.s!!!
On the other hand, I spose it's nice they're investing at least some of the rebate money they stole from us into a worthy cause.
Although I'm sure the only reason theyre doing it is to try and glom on to something good to dilute some of their evil badness. Sorta like how Phillip Morris ran those public awareness ads about how harmful smoking is. And they do taint the X Prize for me now.
Yeah, I'd have to say this is mostly a bad thing, unless of course they put the InPhonic CEO in a rocket and blast him clear out of orbit. Hell I'd put my own money up to sponsor that event, but sadly I seem to be short by $300.
Well, FWIW, here's the link to the actual press release.

Seems like a great way to get involved with another field.
Seems to me the real challange is to get InPhonic (publicly traded parent of Wirefly) to send those rebates out as promised. It is earnings season for publicly traded companies and last quarter InPhonic had blowout earnings, wonder how? Looking forward to another great quarter for them based on this forum!
First, they have no customer service. The assured me my new phone would be delivered and my old cell # ported to my new phone on July 31st. It took me 45 minutes to talk to someone in a call center probably in India. However, they shipped via a fedex method that didn't deliver on Mondays???!! So I didn't get the phone until Aug 1st.
The BIG problem is that they buy phones from manaufacturers, like The RAZR phone from Motorola. The phones will work with Verizon and Cingular etc.., but they are not set up specifically to work on the specific carrier network. So, you'll get more dropped calls, failed calls, and problems with messages etc... There is a difference in the service, and you'll be frustrated with the poor quality you get, because the phone doesn't have the appropriate carrier specific software. It's worth it to pay the extra money and get a phone directly from the carrier, so if you go with Cingular, you know you get a phone set up to work directly with Cingular's network. I've tried to contact them about this, but of course there is not customer service. This company should be shut down, they are basically taking people's money and turning a deaf ear. DO NOT GO THROUGH THE GRIEF, BUY A PHONE ELSEWHERE!
You are an idiot. If they can offer the same phone I bought (and did not get my rebate for) for $50 dollars now the I don't buy into your theory. And whether you like it or not, if a rebate was promised then I am entitled to it.
I placed an order to get 2 new phones with them and have had no problems... got my phones in 2 days and they work perfectly. I've already told several friends about them so they can order.
I have probably done 200 rebate deals in my time. Yes, that includes buying 2 phones with a family plan from this company (everything was great -- no problems).
In all my experience, I've only not gotten paid once (and that was a company that went chapter 11 bankruptcy). The key is first of all to understand the terms and conditions and follow them religiously. If the cash back amount is more than $100, that's when I pay extra close attention, make copies, even send via fedex or UPS (it's not that expensive, really, and it's peace of mind). Never a problem.
As I recall the cell phone deals are always complicated. Everyplace I shopped the deals required that you show six month's worth of paying your bill before you are eligible for th3e cash back. That's just the reality. You either pay $300 for the phone without strings attached, or you get it free with the strings. I'll take the strings! Just follow it to the letter and you'll be fine.
thanks for the advice dc mom!
from inphonics themselves:

This time it is different. I have followed everything to the letter. They communicated that they received my paperwork. It hasn't gotten past the "processing" stage. They won't tell me what is taking so long.
Apparently in response to my BBB complaint the rebate processor says it is InPhonic's responsibility to fund the rebate. Well they haven't. Smells like fraud to me.
I am a veteran shopper too, but I won't trust rebates anymore. Not only are they keeping my $100, but also the interest. Cumulatively, it probably accounts for the 57% stock jump they've had this year. Add on to that major portals like CNet supporting them and partnering with them, getting commissions.
After they acknowledge that rebates have been received it can take many weeks (i.e., several months) for the rebate processing center to process the info, verify things with the carrier, communicate this to inphonics and then get a check written and approved. I know it's a long time, but be patient.
The rebate form which I carefully followed said 8-10 weeks. If that's not the correct amount of time, they should revise the form. They can't even follow their own rules. It's not only the $100 or more they are not giving each of us, it's also the interest on all that money. It adds up.
I'm never doing a rebate deal again, I don't care what company it's with.
Yeah 8-10 weeks is not true. It takes them that long to get the rebates in their system. All in all it took both my friends just under a year (from purchase. 6 months from submittal). But they did come, without any hassle. I agree that it should be faster. I hear they've been having problems with their rebate processing vendor (a third party company). Maybe they'll think about switching to a bigger one that can get on the ball.

from what i heard it is not the rebate company but the comany it self making it hard for the rebate company to fix any problems. I have also heard that theyare the 3rd company for the cells phones to do their rebates. HMMMM where do you think the problem lays.
dear,
lucky for you, if you could get your rebates, just forget about interest. OK. I would send you a check of double amount of what they rebate you. OK.
