large jpg pictures

by Kelray - 3/23/06 11:37 AM

I am having a little trouble e-mailing pictures that I take with my digital camera. I am able to save them to the computer all right, but when I go to e-mail them they appear way too big on the screen and even though they are saved in JPG format they are fairly big in size. They probably average about the half a megabyte per picture. I live out in the country where the only Internet connection I can get is a slow dial-up connection and it takes forever to send these pictures. Does anybody have any idea how I can cut these pictures down in size? I hope you understand what I am talking about.
Thank you very much in advance for any help you may be able to offer me.

You can open them with this and save a smaller version for emails.

Here is what I would tell you to try. Picasa2 it's a free program from google. It will do what you want and a lot more. It will resize your photo and automatic attach then to your email for you. Give it a try, it's easy to use. Here is the link to download Picasa2

Totally agree with R.Profitt

This amazing (little in size) program is the best as far as I am concerned; it now also provides a thumbnail little program that is totally awesome.
I used Picassa once or twice and finally uninstalled and kept I-View; love the feature of inserting text/resizing and especially slide show feature.

Resizing e-mail pics

by ericinaz - 3/26/06 9:19 AM In reply to: Try IRFANVIEW by R. Proffitt Moderator

Forgive me, but later in this text I'll use the "F-word". I doubt many of you will mind.

I also strongly endorse using Irfan for resizing e-mail photos. It also excels for adjusting color balance, contrast, etc., and you can even add text to your photos. I've abandoned Corel, Microsoft, Adobe and Kodak programs in favor of Irfan. Irfan is quick and easy to use when time is an important factor, and would be worthwhile at any price. An added bonus is that (here it comes) it's ** FREE ** to download & use.

large jpgs

by Bijoux - 3/24/06 2:01 AM In reply to: large jpg pictures by Kelray

One of the quickest and easiest ways is to open your Windows Explorer, go to the file where the pictures are stored, highlight the ones you want to save, right click, go to Send TO: click on that - it should bring up a menu question to resize for email, click yes, then the compose email should open with the pictures attached. You would still have the original pictures in their original size on the computer. I think I wrote all the steps. But it is really easy to follow the menu choices. Give it a try.

Resizing multiple jps

by Joan - 3/24/06 8:19 AM In reply to: large jpgs by Bijoux

I like the feature in explorer where you right click and choose "send to email", but how can this be used to resize multiple photo files?

Resize multiple jpg photos

by genealogist - 3/30/06 3:29 PM In reply to: Resizing multiple jps by Joan

In Explorer, using thumbnails for ease of usage, select multiple photos by holding down the Control Key (or Shift Key if they are all next to each other). Then on any one of the pictures, use the same routine as for one picture, "Send . . . to email" etc. All of them will show up on your email attachment line, and all will be the smaller size you have selected. I even use this method for a quick re-sizing of photos for other purposes (by emailing the message with its small photos back to myself, and then saving them to my own files with new names).

How to reduce large jpegs

by jjeyalingam - 3/24/06 2:16 AM In reply to: large jpg pictures by Kelray

There's a great utility that used to be free called Xatio.

Basically you start it, open a jpeg. It will open two windows - left and right. With a slider bar. If you move the slider bar left and right, it will condense/fill-out your image. The idea is to condense your image until you notice the quality of the image changing. Save it at this point and you should have a smaller but suitable quality image to send.

Strtetching JPEG Files

by drfrank - 3/24/06 2:37 AM In reply to: large jpg pictures by Kelray

Under "Start" go to "Programs" then "Accessories", then "Paint". Open the file you wish to send in Paint. Click "Image" the "Stretch/Skew". Enter 25 in horizontel and 25 in vertical under "Stretch". Click OK and your image will reduce to 25 % of the original. You may have to use 10 or 50 to get an optimal size image. Click "Save AS" and save your new image with a modified designation so you can save the original also. Send the modified file as an attachment.

This is a little cumbersome but saves you buying new software.

JPEG pictures

by vojislav - 3/24/06 4:18 AM In reply to: Strtetching JPEG Files by drfrank

I find that the easiest is when you go to My Pictures, highlight the picture the send, right click and then send to, down to e-mail recepient. When the window pup ups in the left hand corner, check "make all my pictures small". That's it...at least for me. There is even "more options" that show small, medium and larege sizes to use and send.

JPEG pictures

This is the most logical way to send e-mail pictures. I don't know why people are recommending all these other options.
