TH-50PX60U

by retrojet - 3/21/06 10:34 AM In reply to: PC Connection's price on the TH-42PX60U by John L. Gardner

I ordered one of these a week ago from PC Connection. Didn't realize they weren't an authorized dealer, but not sure what that means with Panasonic. That surprises me since PC Connection is a pretty big retailer. I bought my G5 from them (Mac Connection actually) about 2.5 years ago, and that was backordered at the time. No problems there. I think the big question is whether or not Panasonic will honor the warranty, and I don't see a reason why they would not.

TH-50PX60U / TH-42PX60U at PC Connection

by John L. Gardner - 3/21/06 1:05 PM In reply to: TH-50PX60U by retrojet

I too went ahead and ordered a 42" (TH-42PX60U) while they were listed at $1995 (the price has since gone up to $2299). The price was so good that I had to ask the PC Connection rep., "Are these gray market?" and "Will the warranty be good?" He answered, "no" and "yes," respectively, and volunteered that PC Connection was not an authorized Panasonic dealer, but that Panasonic would honor the warranty nonetheless. I was surprised since -- as you say -- PC Connection is a fairly large and pretty reputable retailer. The catch was, as he explained, that PC Connection has no idea when they'll be able to snare these from a distributor, so we could be waiting for more than a couple of weeks. I've found discussions on the web about PC Connection running the same sort of deal with other plasma televisions (i.e., taking backorders), and then not being able to get the televisions and canceling the orders months later. Let's hope things go better for us.

Comparison between New Panasonic 60U and the Pioneer 4360 Pl

by mamichuli - 3/24/06 10:35 AM In reply to: TH-50PX60U by retrojet

Message to the wise: Panasonic reps insist vendor has to be AUTHORIZED). I don't know whether they stand by that or have exceptions, but be careful!!

Has anyone done any comparison work on the Panasonic 60U and the Pioneer 4360(which is supposed to be the best one)?

TH-42PX60U is not 1080p

by John L. Gardner - 3/13/06 3:19 PM In reply to: 600u and 60u panasonic plasma tv by ant6210

I do not believe that the TH-42PX60U supports 1080p. Panasonic's own website claims only "480p/720p/1080i." That's "1080i" as in "interlaced," not progressive.

Don't know about the rest but...

I just got my 50PHD8UK and it's simply gorgeous. Now I'm updating the rest of my system around it. Although it's too early for me to tell you about long-term wear, I can say that it's got a fantastic picture and the price can't be beat.
