Dell 8300 DVD Drive Problems

by lundp - 3/20/06 6:35 PM

My Dimension 8300 has two DVD drives, one is a reader and the other a DVD writer. Things seem to have gone haywire as neither drive will read CD / DVD media consistently or correctly. When I place a DVD video disk in the drive, Windows reports a generic CD-ROM on the drive icon. And CD media will not open.

This machine came with PowerDVD, Sonic and Roxio CD Creator software. I also have iTunes and RealPlayer installed.

The drives are working fine as I can use bootable CDs and DVDs to boot the Dell. It just seems to be a problem in Windows XP Pro.

Thanks

Delete the upper and lower filters.

HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENT_CONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318

LOOK FOR UPPERFILTERS AND DELETE IT
LOOK FOR LOWERFILTERS AND DELETE IT

HOPE THIS HELPS. IT HELPED ME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM
