Im in the process of researching for the purchase of a new laptop, but I dont really know what is best for my intentions Intel Duo or AMD 64? I really like to game butin tend on using this for many other purposes to include entertainment. If anyone out there would point me in the right direction to include manufacturers that would be great. I am currently looking at HP 8000, Dell XPS 170, and possibly Toshiba or a lower end Alienware...but i'm lost money is an issue in the range of aprox.. $2000-2700....please help..
Hi !
For entertaiment, the AMD Turion 64 is better thant the Intel Pentium M.
But if you do a lot of Multi-tasking, you could have better performances with the Core Duo. Graphics controller are better with the Core Duo than the AMD Turion based laptops.
The choice is in this sentence : If you're looking to keep your laptop for a long time, take an AMD Turion 64 based laptop. If you do multi-tasking and if you need a long battery life, take the Core Duo.
Don't take a Pentium M laptop. This processor is already obselet vis-a-vis the Core Duo.
Avoid Alienware laptop. They have a very poor after-sale service. And take the minimum RAM you can buy with the laptop. After bought it, buy an OCZ 1*1GB bar. You 'll have more agressive timmings and better performances.
Totally agree. Forget about Alienware. I have one and I would expect much better service after spending 3g on a laptop. Until now, I still can recall exactly what all of the customer services replied (at least 5 different people including one manager or supervisor) "Sorry about the delay but our notebooks are unlike others. Ours are like a piece of art (or state of the art)." Well, they rehearsed it very well.
