My mother is one of those religious fanatics, and she seems to get worse every year. She just got back from a trip to Israel and I was helping her do some video editing of the trip, and I still can't believe that a group of grown men and women can be so gullible! I find it very sad to see people act that way, but I think it's worse that there are people who will take advantage of them financially.
AMEN, SISTER!
Democrazs/Republicans who spend our tax dollars foolishly.
This turned out to be a bit of a Pandora's box, didn't it?
Okay, I think the original intent was trying to focus on what is deemed as a personal threat on your computer, and I voted for spyware. Each of the items on the list can be completely avoidable if you don't:
- download questionable apps
- visit the odd websites (e.g. lyric database websites often attempt to download a trojan virus, or at least, what is flagged as a trojan by various virus protection software titles)
- roam the Internet without some form of protection
IMHO, spyware is very sneaky, installing without any knowledge and sometimes making it impossible to uninstall without getting into the registry and doing some major work in there. Even if you do uninstall an app, there is often another file somewhere on your PC that will reinstall the app, and if you don't aggressively go after it, you could be completely hosed. Spyware and malware may not be the most damaging threats, but they're often the least detectable and pose a huge risk of siphoning information from your computer without drawing any attention to itself.
Apathy! Half the population is looking for someone to blame (like the White House - even tho we only have what few facts the media serves us on a silver platter) and the other half of the population just doesn't care. Hey, this half blames it on "There's nothing I can do".
As evidenced by: compare the voting population to the actual number of people who vote.
Don't start at the White House, start electing honest members of the House & Senate !
I've never gotten any malware (viruses, trojans, spyware, etc.) and I don't even have a firewall (I hate the XP SP2 firewall) and antivirus programs. My sole security is PGP Desktop.
I have the Pro version which gives me the ability to encryt my entire hard drive. I got it last month with increase security concerns from the Bush Administration. I'm actually not so worry about loss of my computer as thieves won't be able to decrypt my data (My passkey is 48 alphanumeric + symbols long --> I randomly generated the sequence for maximum security and I memorized it).
My fear of the government stealing my personal information is not very great, but I bought the encrytion, so that in case they decide to snoop around, at least it won't be in the open.
The biggest threat facing us all is global warming! Just take a look at the news and almost every forth page there is an article on global warming.
Dont even need to comment on this one. The sky is falling...
Well, this just leads us back to the White House, then doesn't it. Seems like 'Dubbya' thinks Global Warming is science fiction instead of a problem...
global warming is not a security threat
dumbass
carbon dioxide will melt the ice and then sea level will rise and your house and pc and eveything else will be washed away! Then it will be a security threat because there is no security!
Without getting "political" in this "technical" forum, I think phishing is worse. We have virus protection programs, firewalls, anti-spyware programs to take care of those matters. We only have ourselves to help us with phishing issues.
Phishing catches out the clueless.
Spyware catches those who download junk software.
Viruses catch people who will never learn.
Google desktop is only for the honest.
The White House, well, y'all vote for what you get.
Anything else is Microsoft's fault.
HERE, HERE
All right! A voice of reason! A faint cry in the wilderness, but I hear and understand!
