Battery gone dead
by ritchotte - 3/11/06 6:01 AMwhile I was running my laptop computer (Compaq Presario 3000) on batteries the battery went dead. While at that time the battery staus was showing 50% battery power remaining. Although I have replaced the battery but I am still worried that what caused the battery to go dead and how it can be avoided in future.

Your PC's viewing of the % of power remaining may not be accurate either. Battery time will decrease with age as a normal course. It is possible that a charging circuit can damage or decrease battery life but it's usually the battery itself. In a quest for bringing down the cost and weight of laptops, I think manufacturers are installing lesser capacity and/or cheaper batteries. Some such as IBM offer higher capacity ones at a premium.
