Battery gone dead

by ritchotte - 3/11/06 6:01 AM

while I was running my laptop computer (Compaq Presario 3000) on batteries the battery went dead. While at that time the battery staus was showing 50% battery power remaining. Although I have replaced the battery but I am still worried that what caused the battery to go dead and how it can be avoided in future.

Depending on the battery type and age

at the time of death, this could be quite normal. Your PC's viewing of the % of power remaining may not be accurate either. Battery time will decrease with age as a normal course. It is possible that a charging circuit can damage or decrease battery life but it's usually the battery itself. In a quest for bringing down the cost and weight of laptops, I think manufacturers are installing lesser capacity and/or cheaper batteries. Some such as IBM offer higher capacity ones at a premium.
