I found a cheap camera on ebay called a genesis and it seemed to have pretty cool features so i went ahead and ordered it. I couldnt find any info on the web but found out it was also called a megxon s301. Does anyone have this camera or know if it is anygood at all? Why is it so cheap? I only paid $89 for it.
If not here, elsehwhere if nothing more for 2 things.
1. The pixel count is a lie.
2. There appears to be no support or web site for software or updates.

This is a very good compact camera. The pictures come out perfect .I bought this on Ebay for $160.00 and well worth it.Small enough to fit in your pocket.Takes pictures like a champ. The video quality comes with sound.Which takes 640 X 480 at 30 FPS.If you notice on ebay they are selling 12 megapixel cameras. This is exactly the same .(Interpolated)is just enlarging the pixels. It haves nothing to do with the quality. To know a camera's true MegaPixels look for resolution without (Interpolated).I think in my opinion for the price it is a great camera.Takes extreme closeup shots to infinity.
Better luck next time. ![]()
I have this camera. I also bought it for ebay. My camera came with all the software and accesories and I paid $150!! I love my camera. It takes great pictures. The only thing that I don't like is the batteries run out fast. I need some rechargable ones I guess. I use it for my small business. I am by far not a photographer. My computer guy looked at it and said i got a really good deal. I hope you have good success with yours
I also bought it on ebay. For the money it is not bad, but it has absent:
- optical zoom
- optical viewfinder
- the pixel count is much less then ads.
May be the best part is it size - it is very compact.
Eugene.
I see many people have brought these Megxon cameras from Ebay as I did.
I buy Items like this to review and see if they are as advertised which these cameras arent
They are of poor quality when taking pictures and after a short time the USB connection becomes faulty
I am in the process of trying to have them withdrawn from sale on Ebay in Australia.
Test the camera by taking close ups and using as a webcam and use it as intended and advertised and compare quality as in the promotion.
Buy or find a cheap webcam like a Logitech which I tried and compare quality..the webcam is much better than these Megxon. The 8 Digital Zoom is a joke !!
I've been reading quite a bit about these cameras in this forum and have noticed that people complain when they try to take 6 megapixes pics with what is obviously a 3 megapixel camera. I think if you set it to 3 megapixels or less you will be quite satisfied with the pictures because 3mp is the camera's true resolution. From what I've read I also think buying rechargeable lithium Ion batteries would be a good investment since they do "eat batteries" by all accounts. Would love to have you post on the results of my advice in the future.
I bought a megxson s301 from e-bay. I've seen a lot of them on there and read a lot of reviews for them (most of which were good) so I thought, what they hey? The problem I'm having isn't with the camera and the pictures its with the software. I've always had problems with digital cameras and printers, but this is about to drive me crazy. Where do I need to install the drivers? Do I need another set of TWAIN drivers? Are there issues with Windows XP? If anyone can help please do let me know. And is there a work around? I e-mailed the company, but since they're in Taiwan I'm doubting I get a response. By the way, the file for the drivers on the megxon site is corrupted.
Thanks
Brent
I also bought one..it was only $50 (used) but it takes great pictures. the best pics are at 3.1 and 4 MP, you get a bit fuzzy at anything higher...the only problem Ive had is with the cam driver..it doesn't work..but then Ive never had any luck with printer and camera drivers. The only work around I can figure is to get a card reader.
I was the one who bought it on ebay. it has a very high resolution(7mp) but the zoom is only in 3mp or lower. basically, the higher the resolution, the lower the zoom. also, it does not have many advanced settings, such as red-eye-reduce etc.. but, it is very small, slim, and light. it has no viefinder, you can only take pictures through the LCD screen. it does not come with an SD card, but with 16mb internal memory. this can only hold about 20 of the highest resolution pictures. it does not come with rechargable batteries, but it is advisable to get because it uses up batteries relatively quick. i also searched on megxon's site to see the retail price, and they did not have this model. I am still searching for it.
p.s. the price i got it for on ebay in the end was about $92
I been reading many posts regarding these cameras. From what I've read I've come to the conclusion that these cameras are a rather good deal for someone beginning to dabble in digital photography. I've seen pictues taken by the cameras posted by many of the Cnet community members, and I must admit that for the price you're paying the pictures are excellent in quality. It has been mentioned before the the number of pixels or resolution of the sensor are usually the same as the first digit in the model number. My impression has also been that many of the buyers who post complaints about the camera have done very little or no research on digital cameras prior to their purchase. Your camera is a 3 megapixel (S3xx) camera and I think that if you set it to take pictures at that resolution you'll be completely satisfied with your purchase. If you set it to take 7MP pictures you will be very disappointed. As far as windows is concerned I never download pictures from the camera, it is an absolute waste of time. Get a flash card reader, it's much faster and works on whatever verison of windows you happen to be using. With regards to batteries you can save some power on them by turning the lcd screen off and using the viewfinder, if none is available then by all means get rechargable batteries. They should be viewed more as a necessity than as an accesory.
I don't know if you've already bought one of these but mine is horrible. It takes 2 batteries to take pictures that last for about 15 minutes of picture taking MOST of the time.. 2 hours if I get lucky. I have lost the instruction papers for it, bought on ebay for $165 2 yrs ago and can't even figure out how to use most of the things it does. ALL pics are blurry as well. IF you do have one and it works, please let me know what you are doing right that I'm obviously missing.
Thanks so much and if you haven't bought one of these yet..save your money. If you have, give me a clue if you know where I can order info on it.
Happy Holidays!
