Typically, CNET ignores the truly great instant messenger program in the form of iChat which I use not only to text message but also for voice over internet for free and three way video conferencing and just hanging out..I would say, it alone, makes the Macintosh Computer better than the ugly lumps out there that CNET seems to love so much.. MacBook Pro is the machine I am using now...fantastic.
I use MSN Mess, I only use it primarily because my family was set-up on it before I came on the pic, so I just went on what they were on. However, now that I am useing my webcam to talk to family I tried yahoo's as my son started useing it and said it was much clearer to see and hear. He is right, much less interferance.I dont find the options are better though.
Instant communication is offensive. I don't want my computer time interrupted by messages the sender thinks are important enough to wedge into my work.
I prefer to gather messages on my own terms.
trillian is the best because it allows the most customization and u can chat on aim, msn, yahoo, icq, and irc and u get like 150 smilies
I'm kinda surprised Gaim isn't on the list, I use it on Linux and Windoze.
I use pal talk(the free one lol)a fair amount.which i don't see on the list you have compiled.I feel that it should also be included.Thank you
I use Paltalk the most though I do also have Yahoo and MSN
I HAVE TO ADMIT UP FRONT THAT I AM A BIT MORE MATURE THAN MANY OF THOSE IN YOUR AUDIENCE...I USE THE IM FACILITY THAT IS PART OF MY YAHOO ISP DSL OCCASIONALLY...I'M NOT TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH WITH A WHOLE HIGH SCHOOL OR EVERYONE IN THE SCHOOL OF NURSING (DARN-I WISH I WAS IN COLLEGE IN THIS DAY AND TIME). I DO KNOW THAT THE YOUNG FOLKS LOVE THIS PRODUCT AND HOPE THIS WILL HELP THEM MAINTAIN A GREAT SOCIAL LIFE AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT SUITS THEM.

Over the years my friends and family have had ICQ, then switched so they could talk to their friends and family with other IMs, so we've all built up accounts all over the place.
My Trillian puts all my friends lists on one list and I can see when a friend is offline on Yahoo and online on ICQ or MSN.
I wouldn't have MSN or AIM on my system except some family have ignorantly chosen them and that's the only way to catch them. I don't like snoopy or super-tentacled into my system so I can't delete ever programs.
I do notice that my son, who also has Trillian and has a cell phone he can call me on for free prefers to just talk to me on Trillian.
I like being able to get up in the morning and find parts of conversations I have with friends who are awake in the wee hours while I'm sleeping...I like being able to chat with friends and family who are at work and have their IMs open...I like being able to save instructions for new programs like when my son teaches me how to use Azureus...
And I like having lists I've had for years, some with friends who have died since the list got started.
I like having a list I had to fight to get back from lil hacker dudes who liked my early ICQ number and stole it so I couldn't use it.
With Trillian, I can have everybody at once.

Hello To All;
I have been using Yahoo messager for years. Telling the turth; I love it because it is far better than hotmail. Me and my friends have no provlems with it. Try yahoo first and if you don't like it; then tried your second choice and so on.

By far Yahoo has got to be the best. It has a feature which MSN should be looking into and that is leaving offline messages. I love that feature.
i use yahoo messager the most
I use Skype as my main program now but I also use PalTalk, MSN messanger,AOL,Yahoo,ICQ, Trillian they are ok but I like Skype the best, The others I have used more in the past But since I started using Skype it has been the most rewarding so far and I will keep it as my primary program it is more versitale IMO and my friends and family too.

I used AOL Instant Messenger. I use it because it was the program the office manager downloaded to everyone's computer. I used to use MSN but my work computer is six years old and gave me trouble with excess programs due to a small amount of RAM and a small hard drive. I like MSN because a lot of my friends use it. AIM is okay too.
I use MSN/Yahoo.. Both are easy to use programs. I have no reason to change.
