I want to be able to either customize my equalizer settings on the iPod itself, or be able to transfer my settings from iTunes over. Oh, and BRING BACK FIREWIRE!
I also agree with most people that a built in radio would be a great idea, too. AM/FM is a given, but when it comes to satellite, either make it universal, or don't include it at all. I think XM or sirius modules attached to the dock connector would be a better idea.
It seems so obvious. A version of the iPod with a capability to play movies or recorded (maybe even live) TV.
Why should sony have the market cornered with its proprietary junk?
Sure it would have to be bigger, but if size is a problem dont buy it.
iPod for me? NO THANKS
It's my understanding that the spyware/tracking cooking 207.net is part of the iPod software and is hiving off information on my computer to third parties (contrary to contract terms) - if someone knows how to permanently remove this pest from my computer (please let me know - iPod, maybe) then, and only then, will I look at iPod again. Until then, you can stick it where the sun don't shine.
1. Your post was ridiculous. There is no spyware in iTunes.
2. In answer to your question, you can install Linux, and load your iPod from the new version of Rhythmbox or GTKpod.
PDA, Cellphone, FM tuner, GPS, voice recorder, usb/firewire portable HDD, Plaback of MP3, WMA, OOG, video formats, etc. Also, is can't cost more than $200. Is that too much to ask? LOL
How about a touch screen the full size of the ipod?
How sweet would it be to have my cell phone in my backpack and be able to answer it on my ipod without digging for the cell phone....
How about having both your bluetooth enabled phone and iPod in your backpack and a set of bluetooth headphone on. You listen to your music, phone rings, music is interrupted so you can take your call.
You then get into your bluetooth enabled car, your iPod and phone automatically now pair up with your car and you haven't had to touch 'em. This scenario is why I want BT in the next iPod.
What's next for the iPod? The end.
The uprising has begin! Less features for larger price will stop.
Screw the iPod, screw conformity, screw the brainwashing and limitations! There is more, and the iPod is not it.
Wow...this KevinCLovesU dude has some major issues!!!
I'm a proud Mac user, I avoid "WinDoze" at all costs, but I don't really think I need to promote death and civil unrest upon Bill Gates or Microsoft. Jeez dude...get a grip! I think of it as Chevy or Ford, chocolate or vanilla, spring or fall...your views would fall under communistic dictatorship (i.e. Hitler and the likes).
BTW, I have a Mac G5, an iPod and XM radio...the best of BOTH evils! LOL!! I bet this is just gonna make Kevin's eyes bleed with anger...just watch for his reply. LOL!!!
Why would I want to see a single feature. I thinl iPod is crap!
I'd like to see the iPod have the ability to play MIDI files. I have the software to convert them to WAV but, I like having as many options as possible.
Also, an FM tuner would be nice but, most FM stations really suck these days.
(Thanks, Clear Channel!) How about an XM receiver? That would be profitable.
seriously, if you want these features, there are already players out that have close to this feature set... maybe if the ipod added 4 or so of them...
Like must of you should now, the iPod Video isnt really a Video Player... it just supports videos. So the next iPod will be much of a real video player, and of course it will support more video formats.
Here are the next Gen iPod Specs:
-4-inch Widescreen LCD. (Measured Diagonally)
-Touch Screen with a digital wheelpad under the menus.
-Will play videos in Full Screen.
-Nearly the same dimensions as the current iPod Video. (4.2'' * 2.5'' * 0.5'')
-Bluetooth included.(No Wi-Fi so far)
-Built in FM Tuner, Microphone and TV out.
-Will Come in 30GB and 60GB models just like the iPod Video.
-Will support the same Audio Formats as the iPod Video.
-Increased Battery Life but still not removable.
-Still no scratch proof surface.
-Price still not aviliable, I guess it will be $399 for the 30GB model and $449 for the 60GB model.
Check out the iAudio X5L. Comes in 20 or 30 gig. A 60 gig X5 is also available with only 14 hours. A 20 and 30 gig X5 is also available. The X5L's have 35 HOUR audio battery life under the same conditions as the ipod test(128kbps mp3, don't touch it, no sound settings). It has all of the requests in the orignial subject except for built in wireless, big screen, and removable battery. Best of all it requires NO software. Just plug it in and transfer without being forced to use inferior products(iTunes, Creative, etc.). Just stay away if you don't like to use a joystick and buttons instead of the clickwheel.
Also stay away if you want a nice high-resolution screen. It is only 1.8" 160x128. It is very bright and has 260,000 colors. The ipod has just as many colors but it has a 2.5" 320 x 240 screen. It doesn't scratch like an ipod and there are many free video converting software which can convert to the X5 video format(xvid avi). It has video, pictures, audio, text files, and supports tons of codecs (OGG,WMA,MP3,FLAC,WAV).
It is comparable to the ipod in size. The X5 20 and 30 gig is slightly thicker than the 30 gig ipod and the X5L 20 and 30 gig and X5 60 gig is slightly thicker than the 60 gig ipod. It has recording features(FM, voice, line-in), though only in mp3. FM tuner has everything you could want in an FM tuner(presets,scanning,etc.).
USB-OTG is a great feature for digital camera enthusiasts and PSP owners. You can transfer files to and from other devices WITHOUT a computer. So you could essentially have a 60 gig pocket-size hard drive for your PSP or camera to dump files on.
Also be warned that you browse files by folder/file view. You do not browse by tags. Developers are planning to son release firmware that will allow you to browse music by tags. It doesn't scratch either, all aluminum except for screen. IT also ahs support(somewhat) for DRM WMA files.
The only thing the iPod beats this in is a higher resolution and bigger screen and a tv-out. Some prefer the scrollwheel and ID3 browsing as well. The X5 will display your ID3 tags, but only while you play them.

As to the built-in bluetooth, that is impractical as it will add some cost and is a niche feature. Bluetooth speeds are too slow to send your files over(it's possible but just takes forever). It's not practical. Bluetooth 2.0 has a maximum speed of 2.1 Mbit/s which is hardly reproduced in real-world tests.
As to the wi-fi, it will most definitely be 802.11b if implemented. Most(if not all) mobile devices besides laptops can't use 802.11g and therefore use 802.11b. 802.11b has a maximum speed of 11 Mbit/s which is also never reproduced in real-world tests. Suppose you were able to somehow miraculasuly achieve 16 Mbit/s (even though it is faster than the maximum speed). That would translate to 2 Mbytes/s. An average mp3 file is 4 Mbytes. It would take 2 seconds per song to transfer even with the higher than normal speeds. However, if they somehow implement 802.11g into mobile devices, then this will be very practical. 802.11g in my house achieves real-world speeds of around 32 Mbit/s through a cieling. That is 4 Mbyte/s. Twice the speed of the unachievable speed of 802.11b(in reality 802.11b would probably be less than a megabyte per second).
