Zen Micro not recognized

by ripley527 - 2/1/06 9:08 AM

Hello,

I just purchased a Zen Micro (6GB) which I like but have two problems with it already.

1. My computer does not recognize the device. When I plug it in via USB, the device says that it is docked and begins to charge, but Windows Media Player does not recognize it. I followed the instructions on the website and did the regedit and changed the permissions for everyone under USB, but still no luck. Any ideas? I run Windows XP.

2. When I turn on my player when the words Zen pop up, they are present in their entirety at first and then the top of the letters dissapear. This isn't a big deal in and of itself, but I am worried that it means the screen is screwy already.

I can get a replacement Zen Micro if need be, just need advice on what to do. I have an email into Creative, but figured that you would all know what to do!

Thanks!

Creative software?

Did you install the Creative software that came with the player? I have the Vision:M, not sure what S/W comes with the Micro.

help on the Zen Micro not recognized

by nomadliam - 2/1/06 9:44 AM In reply to: Zen Micro not recognized by ripley527

Are you sure that you have installed the drivers that are needed to run the mp3 player. if not i think that you may need to re-install the drivers as windows will not be able to recognize the usb device, i had the same trouble with a webcam that i had. you may need to go onto

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Creative-Nomad-Zen-Micro-11101.shtml

this is where you can download the drivers for the zen micro if this works then reply and tell me
if this doesnt work or help and then i can help you some more.

thanks nomadliam

still stuck

by ripley527 - 2/1/06 7:21 PM In reply to: help on the Zen Micro not recognized by nomadliam

the driver program isn't working. it is saying that i have applications running that are conflicting with the program even when i don't have anything running.

i re-installed the drivers that are on the creative site, but still no luck.

i am extremely frustrated! i've been able to make it work two times and i'm not sure what has been different those times. like i said before, the device is charging, but i can't get any media player to find the device.

thanks in advance for any help!

Resolve the install conflict

by locoHost - 2/2/06 4:35 AM In reply to: still stuck by ripley527

Your task now is to figure out what backround process, service, or application is stopping you from installing the Creative software. You know how to see what apps and process are running using "Task manager" right? Do you also know how to "Manage my computer" and find the various running services and disable anything that may conflict? This isn't the forum to discuss these things. See what you can do. Check the Creative "Knowledge Base" and post in their support forums as well. You'll get it working :-)

has anyone figured out this problem because I have had the exact same problem. the device isn't recognized when I connect it to the USB port and then the device freezes up. i've actually been able to transfer music fine a couple of times. but most of the time it doesn't work.

Return it right away if you know what's good for you.

I have to reload the firmware everytime I want to add a song. This was an expensive mistake.

I am going nano as soon as i can. soon they will have 60 gig flash memory....

Ignore the iLemming

by locoHost - 2/7/06 5:04 AM In reply to: return it! by courirny

Please ignore "courirny". He/she is not trying to help you. I've had the Vision:M since it came out and mine is working perfectly. I even dropped mine from four feet onto a hard tile floor (accidentally of course) and that didn't even phase it. The Zen PMPs are tough. Get your Creative software on your PC working. If after that the Zen still doesn't work, then yes perhaps you got a bad one. In that event, I'm certain you can exchange it.

mp3 player not recognized by wmp10

I am having the same problem. Except my issue is with both a Sumsung ypj7 and another brand of player. The only one that works is a Creative Movo 128 mb. I wanted to upgrade but I've had no luck. I've tried windows help, samsung help, emachines help. Nobody knows anything. How is your progress coming?

Newest software

by locoHost - 2/25/06 3:05 PM In reply to: mp3 player not recognized by wmp10 by decorumforum

I'm using both a Zen Vision:M and a Zen MicroPhoto on two different PCs. I've installed the latest MP3 software on both machines. Get the newest s/w from the Creative site. LMK how that goes.

:-)
