error message

by bigjohnl - 2/24/06 6:38 PM

I transferred all my data from old computer to new computer, but now the ISP that I was using keeps giving me a 633 error msg. saying modem in use by another program. Sorry for being so dumb, but appreicate any help, because my ISP people can't seem to help me. I downloaded AOL with no problem, just so I could get connected, but still can't connect with old ISP of who I have 12 mths contract and can't get out of.

Your ISP might have already asked you to do this, but then again . . .

If it works okay with a new download of AOL, have you tried removing your ISP info and then downloaded it again to reinstall?

Sorry, I don't know enough about anything to offer any real help. I just noticed you didn't mention having tried doing this yet, so if nothing else you could get it out of the way when someone else asks you before you move on to try another solution.

Good Luck!

I have already tried that

Yes I did uninstall my original ISP and then reinstalled it, but got the same error message.
I am wondering if it could be the Norton running in the back ground.Would it be dangerous to uninstall that and try to download the Isp again? As you can see I don't know enough about anything either to help my self, just read a lot, a whole lot, and then afraid to try much of what I read. I don't want to do any major damage.
Thanks.

Maybe try . . .

Well, yeah, it's okay to uninstall Norton and try again to see if it works that way. Just don't forget and start doing a bunch of stuff without it back on.

Maybe try getting help from Microsoft live chat: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/chats/chatroom.aspx

Straight up - they'll give you sh*t for using AOL anything, before or for now. They might also b*tch about Norton . . . Just don't take it personal!

Good Luck Again!
