I am in the market for a new TV
I want a good tv, preferably 37-42 in. I want the best value for my money so I don't have a certain technology in mind. I will use it to play xbox360 and watch regular TV and dvds.
What do you all think? My budget is max $1500.
Circuit City has an Akai plasma 42in for $1499. I've never heard of that company. Is it any good?
Is it an HD or ED set? Costco has HD plasmas for about your budget.
Here is a link that has alot of info. john

tHE PICTURE SHOULD BE BETTER than the l.c.d set and a c.r.t. hi-def set will run forever good luck stewart
What do you all recommend, I know where to get them I just want to know what I should buy?
Their audio merchandise. Wasn't aware they are dabbling in plasma HDTVs. Frankly $1500 won't buy much in terms of a high quality plasma. Check out the old stand by; CRT based sets. SONY makes at least three 34" widescreen HDTVs
KD-34XBR970 (new model, but no cable card)
KD-34XBR960N also,
KD-34XS955N
good shopping,
river.
These are all CRTs that you mentioned right? Which one would you recommend. I want the price around $1100 for a 34" CRT. I would like a bigger one but have not been able to find a widescreen that is bigger than that.
KD-34XBR970 (new model, but no cable card)
KD-34XBR960N also,
KD-34XS955N
I also just found this one
KV34HS420 sony 34" tube
which ones are really good?
Look into the new XBR970, it lists for $1199. It has a built HD tuner, just needs a cable box. Styling is the same as the other models. The 34" HS420 is not as good as ones mentioned above.
river.
Has a two year warranty parts and labor, and 2 years on the tube as well. Something to think about.

I was also looking at a samsung dlp at best buy that was 42". What, in your opinion is better?
recently shopped for the same thing ended up buying a sony crt i would wait a couple of years if you can before buying lcd dlp or plasma repair records are horrible so far and if your tv is on 20 hours a day like mine the plasmas will only last a couple of years (if u r lucky) and the others will need bulb replacement fairly often also im waiting till 1080p sets are much more common and cheaper and programming is available
Go with the xbr970, as it is basically the 960 without some features that will not be used. Go to sony.com and you can compare them.
The xbr960 is list price for 1900, while the 970 says it will be 1200. The 34kvs is only 1100, but I would get the xbr970, as the 100 is well spent, even just on the warranty.

It would be nice to get a 960 picture at the 970 price, but I have read other postings on other sites that suggest that the xbr 970 will not have the picture quality of the legendary 960. They suggest that the 970 will be more like a repackaged 34HS420 with a XBR name in order to sale off their existing tube inventories. These sites recommend buying the 960 over the 970.
Being an owner of a 30HS420 the specs and pictures of the 970 do look a lot like a 420. (We love our HS420, but the 960 picture is better).
Anyway professional reviews comparing the 970 to the 960 will clear this up once samples are available.
In the meantime does anyone have any further information/insight about the 970 picture vs. 960?
SONY doesn't just throw an XBR label on just anything.
In addition, Sony says the 970 carries a two year parts and labor (including the tube) just like the 960XBR. The 970 has been de-frilled, no analog tuner according to Sony's specs. I think at the worst, it might be an upgraded/updated XS955.
I guess for now, we'll have wait for the 970 itself.
Keep me informed please.
THE XBR970 does include Analog tuner, No CableCard though.
