What is the link to avg for a first-time user?
I am helping a friend get her PC "back in shape" and would like to get AVG installed.
Before going to her home, I downloaded the avg71f_375a703.exe to my PC and burned it to a CD. I placed that file on her PC and tried to install. We got as far as a page where it has her name in the box and requests a license # that she would have received through an email.
Evidently this was not the way to do it. Can someone provide me the link where we can go to get the initial AVG setup for her?
Thanks
Julea
The license # has always been filled in automatically for me. I've never had to fill it in.
The download link you want is: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
You need the free AVG for her unless she wants to buy a license, but to be safe, load the free version and once she is up and running you/she can download and pay for the full version.
I went to www.grisoft.com and in the SEARCH block in upper right of webpage, typed in free AVG. It took me to the page you provided me with.
Evidently the file I downloaded from the page I was working from -- http://www.grisoft.com/doc/71/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 -- is a different download than what comes off the other page. (Have I totally confused you -- LOL)
I notice the file name is the same EXCEPT the file from page I went to is Set-up File avg71f_375a703.exe
The file from your page is the same except the word free is shown instead of f_
Guess they are not the same files. When I get back to her PC, I'll go your route.
Thanks guys.
P.S. For some reason I'm unable to make a post to cnet from her PC. I can get to the site and log in and type my post; however, when I click on SUBMIT, the page just bounces back up at me -- round and round -- it will never "GO". That's another problem, I'm sure.

Here's one possibility. I surf with JavaScript off as much as possible, which, for me, is most of the time. But one time I have to turn it back on is when I want to post a message here (like now). Otherwise, I get the kind of effect you described. You might check the JavaScript setting in the browser on the other computer.

are still having some problems. They aren't as bad as the other day, but I'm still not being able to get in once in awhile today. There are better days ahead, I'm sure. They work hard to keep us happy.
Thanks for your info though.

to my PC like I did the other one and then copy the file from CD to her PC?
Or, must I download it from her PC specifically?
Thanks
Julea
but for someone who doesn/t, yes, you can copy to a CD, thumb drive, etc and copy to her machine. This is what I do any time I set up a PC for myself or someone else. I like to have virus protection running before I visit the web just in case. I saw a report here several years ago where a young lady went to the web for thefirt time to register her brand new PC and was zapped pretty bad. That's an exception but I don't want to share her troubels.
It will ask for your e-mail address and send you a registration code. Copy and paste the registration code after you open Avast. After that it works just fine. Avast Home Edition is as good as Norton...and it's free.
In my spare time (LOL), I help fellow computer club members and friends keep their PC's up to snuff. I'm very familiar with it and like how it talks to you!
Guess I'm just a diehard AVG fan as I have used it for several years. Maybe I should break the mold.
Thanks for your response.

I have AVG on my main computer and run AntiVir one one of my other pc's. It's not a bad little antivirs.
http://www.free-av.com/
I'd rate it up there with AVG when it comes to freebies.
if you are using Zone Alarm Pro where there is a known compatability problem. Works okay with the free version of ZA I am told
You can't run Avast with Zone Alarm Pro, because the pro version already has a virus protection. Avast works great with the free Zone Alarm.
