Flash Drive problem

by unwired - 2/12/06 10:17 AM

My USB flash drive (SanDisk Cruzer Micro 512MB) works with my office computer and my laptop but not my home desktop (where I also work -- so I need files there.) SanDisk support told me that there probably wasn't enough power in my USB ports, and suggested I buy a powered hub. I did, and that didn't make any difference. My computer doesn't recognize that anything has been plugged in.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Things to check

Check your BIOS to verify that USB function is enabled if no USB devices are working on the computer. Also check device manager to see if your USB controller is listed. If the controller isn't listed, or if a warning icon appears, your BIOS may be outdated. If it is listed, R-click the controller and select properties to view any warning messages.

Thanks, but I did check that other USB worked.

I appreciate your taking the time to answer. I did test other USB devices, and all worked. I'll check the BIOS anyway, out of curiosity. --Unwired

Thanks so much!! I wonder why SanDrive didn't mention this the *two* times I called support -- yeesh.
I'm so happy to have my flash drive working.

I'm running Windows XP

I don't think it has anything to do with the operating system, though. The flash drive works on a work XP OS coputer, and my Windows ME laptop. It just won't work with my home desktop.

It's not unusual for this to happen

I would try powering down and unplugging all usb Devices. Power back on to safe mode and using the device manager uninstall all Usb entries, reboot and let windows reinstall USB then try plugging in the flash drive.
