Weatherbug has spyware???

by PMTRAIN - 2/20/06 7:48 AM

Good Morning All. I've been catching up on all the forums
and have come across 2 differant comments stating WeatherBug is loaded with spyware. That kinda concerns me a little, cuz I'v been using it for the last 3 years, only because the school right across the street from me
is the closest reporting station and it's kinda like having your own weather station right in your front yard.
One of the comments said the spyware problem was not hard to track or find, but I'v never heard this before and can't find anything about it. Would somebody elaborate,or send me a link to more info?
I'm running Wxp with Zone Alarm,Adaware,Spyware Doctor,SpyBot,and Spyware Blaster, along with McAfee and Prevx, and none of these have ever complained.
Many Thanks

It had it in the past.

Sorry, but given all the pest issues of the past I would dismiss them as "they had their chance."

No need to consider them as reformed. Also, does EWIDO give your machine a clean pass?

Weatherbug may or may not still have spyware in it but surely use to. It is reported that it does still have adware in it. I can not say for sure because after trying it some years ago, I would never use Weatherbug again.

You can use Google to search for other free weather programs. I know some of them are free and without spyware nor adware ... though I do not remember which ones.

Remember ... Google search is your friend. ;-)

I use WeatherWatcher myself

It's free... Not quite as nice as Weatherbug, but no obnoxious ads. Sadly it seems there's now a version of the download package that comes with spyware, but there is still the "full" download as opposed to the "bundle" download with a spyware package.

Thing I like most about it, is I can set it to display the "feels like" temperature. Living in the mid-west, wind chill this time of year can be a big concern, and then humidity a few months following.

Be sure to run Spybot & Adaware or other Legit Anti-Spy/Ad before Installing the safe new program.
Enjoy!! :D

Weatherbug

I have had it in my Windows XP and a Windows 98 before this and I am very pleased with it as have used it 7 yrs in all and none of the spy searcher hardware has singled it out as spyware. I hear it all time it spy ware and people can think what they want. I also have Yahoo as Home Page and emails and they say right on their website that they collect personal information about you. So I say Enjoy your Weatherbug long as you like because I am going to.
