In answering this forum, I have found that the best applications for Spyware include a mix of "Active" and passive applications! For example, my "Primary" Active Blockers are MS Anti-spyware and SpyBot S&D! Those two are probably the best! However, I don't just stop there, I also use Spyblaster and SpywareGuard also as active "Blockers"! The latter two don't include scanners, they are primarily just "Blockers"!
From what I call a "Passive" standby application, I use Ad-Aware SE personal, Ewido, and Trend Micro! All of these include "Active" Blocking if you purchase the full versions! These programs are only activated by using the "Scanner" application only. However, I have found that using the "Free" blockers working in conjunction with the free "Scanner" only works pretty well!
From a system standpoint, it seems to me that no matter which scanner I use, they all seem to find junk that the others missed! So, the more the merrier!
On a personal standpoint, I use Mozilla Firefox as my primary browser and I must say that if you have this application and use it as your primary browser then you MUST get a copy of EWIDO free! For some reason, when I run all my scans they hardly if ever detect any of the Mozilla firefox cookies, but, if I save EWIDO for last, then BAM, it finds all kinds of Mozilla Cookies that the others did not! This includes the AD-Aware SE program (which I used to think was the best on the market for FREE programs!), but now I believe a mixture of all of these programs will at least put up a serious "Wall of Protection" then any one Spyware program can accomplish!
To summarize I use the following:
1. Ad-Aware SE
2. Spybot S&D
3. Microsoft Anti
4. Ewido
5. SpywareGuard
6. SpyBlaster
7. Trend Micro
I also use CWShredder to help get rid of and clean my system every couple of weeks or so!
Hope this helps some people....Also, you can check out HijackThis forums for some pretty specific instructions on how to "Clean and Remove Viruses and Spyware/Malware" from your computer using many/all Free programs! They also recommend that you boot up in Safe Mode and disable all network connections from the computer and disable system restore, etc.. to officially clean all the "hidden" subfolders and so-forth from your system....
If you need the particulars about where to find this just reply and let me know, I'd be glad to post the website (I'm not for sure if the moderators will let us post this website or not...it is however just a website with information and is not selling anything, so, if anyone else knows more about this...then let me know if it is ok to post that type of information!)

I use Microsoft Antispyware, Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster and AOL Security Center. I am spyware free and have been for years now.
I use the following for spyware protection. I run those that require manual operation daily. The others do it themselves daily.
As far as I know, they work great. Any comments ?
Windows Defender (Beta 2) freebie
Ad-Aware SE freebie
Spybot Search and Destroy freebie
Spyware Blaster freebie
SpamFighter freebie
Also, I use Registry Mechanic to keep my registry working. (Unrelated to spyware of course).
Honsell Thompson
I use Spyware blaster and then run Spybot S&D once per week and adaware (freebie) once per week. Unless of course I have an incident where the PC goes doolally and the I run all the updates and scans as a matter of course.
i just use ADaware SE pro...i run it about every 2-3 days and it usualy finds nothing but low risk things like my recently used files lists etc. but when it dose find somthing its usualy only 1 or 2 things at moast. it allsow has the popup blocker thing with it called AD watch that you dont get with the free ver that blocks popups and blocks spyware from being installed in real time.
i lke ad aware the best iv been using it for years now and it seems to do a verry nich job. i tried spybot like 2 years ago now and if memory serves, it was OK but the gui was sort of ugly and it wasent as good as adaware, dident find as many things, and i think it was hard on the registry.
i allsow had MS antispyware and GIANT befor MS bought it and they both werent verry good IMO...giant was just weird...and the MS beta one was worse...they both missed alot of stuff and acted strange...i would run giant or MS and then run adaware...and adaware found a whole mess of things that the latter 2 had missed.
nis 2006 and spybot: search and destroy, first one monitors and the second scans the disk.
on five year i have not never had need of anti-spyware
or Anti-Virus.
They are not a fortunate type, indeed!
perhaps this has been one of the many reasons that they have made of me the happiest one switcher.
I possess one MAC Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5(Liquid Cooled)
OS X Tiger Edition(version 10.4.5) RAM Memory 1 GB.
I use BT Yahoo! Anti-spy, free from my ISP, Ad-Aware 6 - although I am concerned that it does not update even when I ask it to do so - and PC Tools Spyware Doctor, which I paid for. I could not get Spybot - Search and Destroy - to load; I got a socket error that did not allow me to update and it wouldn't work until I updated.
I use Microsoft Antispyware as the resident defender. I use Ad-aware as a back up scanner
Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot
Contains the most comprehensive suite of anti-spyware programs. Its in Dutch. If you don't read Dutch, or don't know someone who does, but have enough imagination, you may be able to figure it out by yourself. Freeware - contributions appreciated.
This program installs the most effective set of anti-spyware programs and runs them unattended. (No silly questions, like: Do you want to get rid of this spyware" to answer.) Runtime is over an hour for everyting - so run at lunch/break time.
Hitman Pro runs the following programs - unattended:
Ad-Aware SE 1.06 Personal (Freeware), Lavasoft
Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 (Freeware) PepiMK
Spy Sweeper 3, 4 en 4.5 (1 Trial version)
Spyware Doctor 3.5 (Lite version)
CWShredder 2.19 (Freeware) InterMute
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 (Freeware) Javacool Software
Spyware Block List Freeware.
EZ Antivirus from CA
Etrust PestPatrol from CA
Anti-virus from Trend micro
I use SpySweeper and have since it came out.
Before that i used AdAware and a few others even SpyBot/Search&Destroy with Norton AntiVirus and security program but after it caused a lot of problems i moved on to McAfee SecurityCenter and that was 3 or 4 years ago.
Been spyware free ever since (use freebies from time to time to check on my main programs)
And so far neither one has failed me yet!
Getting a new system soon to replace this one and intend to use the same on it as well!
Two at the most is really more than the recomended . Think about it, why would you need even more than 2? Hum... I don't know. I believe that you are over paranoid if you buy or use more than 2 spyware tools.
