My wife and I drive an 1999 Isuzu Trooper 4wd because of several factors. (1) We can see what is in front of because we sit higher up than a normal car and feel safer bacause of this and it is much easier to get in and out of as compared to a car. (2) We go to the mountain a lot and this is a very good vehicle for that type of traveling, both summer and winter. (3) We tend to get much better gas milage per gallon in the mountains than in the cities on the Texas Gulf Coast and that makes us very happy. (4) In a little over 5 years of driving this vehicle we have had to have very little repair work done to the vehicle outside of the normal routine maintenance, and that includes an over 12,000 mile trip through the Rocky Mountains, Canada, the Alaskan Highway, Alaska and back to Texas. Only one problem - a fuel pump went out on us in Montana - glad it wasn't in the boondocks of Alaska where in some areas it is over 200 miles between villages - NOT towns.
Sure it's a gas hog, and more than I need most of the time, but it's wonderful on a family trip or when hauling a load of stuff.

2000 Honda Accord
2002 Mercedes E Class
2004 Mazda3 Hatchback
and my favorite is the Trek 4900 bike, which I use every day.
The Mercedes has major reliablility problems. The Honda and the Mazda are excellent vehicles. Fun to drive and no hassles.
...and I LOVE it!
I drive a MBZ SUV ML320.
I currently drive a Honda Pilot and also own a Volvo 940 Turbo.
I LOVE my Honda.
I drive a 1993 Ford Ranger V-6 w/5sp. trans and cruise control & pwr.windows,locks,tailgate lock,am/fm/cassette radio and added fog & driving lights.
I always owned a car - 300E, ES300, 328is, RX8, then I decided on an economical SUV. I didn't really know one existed but the CRV SE was perfect. I get 21mpg in town - 5-6 mpg better than my RX8 and have all the room I would ever need. It is affordable and has low cost insurance. It is a great SUV. It isn't a sports car but It doesn't really matter anyway in the traffic and I'm not all "couped" up in a small little space with engine heat. The CRV's taught me that you can get a lot of car for less money. I guess I always paid more for what I thought was so much better and now I have learned otherwise. So what if I am missing the backup sensors. I can always add them as an option!

I see that 21% of the pollers are stupid. Compared to the much higher greedy, ignorant voters, that isn't too bad. I, of course, refer to the 21% who own SUV's.
The other choice was the Dodge Neon, which had/has a spotty reliability record. Ford was selling a number of Korean compacts, and General Motors offerings were no more reliable than the Dodge Neon. I'd have preferred to buy American, but it was time to move on from the VW/Audi-powered Dodge Omni. As it turned out, the Corolla has soldiered on with very few problems, though it may be time to look at "Detroit iron" once again.
Somewhat boring & few bells & whistles. Yeah, boring that they'll basically go forever. And I wanted to avoid Japanese brands. The American labels did it to themselves by sticking it to us - sorry. Multiple blown engines, trade-in offers a fraction of "blue book", even refusal to take as trade - I couldn't subsidize them the size of the hole they dug. Truly sorry about another American industry. Bad management & bad labor. Tragedy considering Henry Ford was responsible for creating the American middle class even more so than vehicles. Now we sell burger to each other (service economy) as Dubya burns the unholy debt deep to aid his monied base. No doubt, the real capitalists will survive - to what, watch my grand kids work for the Chinese?

My car is a Honda Accord. As part of my job I travel extensively by road so I need something that is reliable, comfortable and economical. I've always used a car (hatchback) and, after trying several different makes, this is now my third Honda. Reliability was and is the key factor in these buying decisions.
