Works great with OneCare!

by EKlumppJr - 2/21/06 9:50 PM In reply to: IE7 by hfhlt004

After the problems with the first install because of Norton blocking some of the needed files, I downloaded OneCare Beta (Norton was about to expire anyways), uninstalled Norton and re-installed IE7. OneCare has been great so far (and free so far). IE7 has locked up on me when attempting to open too many tabs at once (a problem I don't have with Firefox 1.5), and it's crashed a few times, but so did the Firefox beta.

Safari v IE7 Beta 2

by msgale - 2/10/06 4:46 PM In reply to: Safari by ronald_poi

Why does everything issue have to be converted into a holy war (MAC v PC). The question asked was about IE 7 beta only, not what browser to use. I loaded it on a spare (very old PC). I finally understand tabbed browsers, although sometime I still prefer to open several browsers. Works OK for me, no problems yet.

IE 7 beta messed over wife's computer.

by wotnwabbit - 2/10/06 7:48 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

After she installed it, when she tried to compose a message in "Incredimail" all she saw when she typed was blanks, until she did a line return. This is a known issue.

After I uninstalled (actually reverting to IE6) everything was fine.

IE 7 beta was released for developers. Web sites and newsletters are doing their readers a disservice by highlighting it's availabilty for download. I wait at least a month after final version releases before installing anything.

One newsletter I receive (Download Dispatch) even stated that IE7 could not be uninstalled. Not true, it's a fairly easy procedure and the uninstall is included in the release notes. The release notes are available at Microsoft's web site.

Internet Explorer....

by Rozann - 2/10/06 9:07 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

Personally I think it stinks..... It slows my computer to a crawl, and after about 15 minutes up pops a message saying IE is having a problem and my program/window will be closing... If this continues to happen, please contact ________________.... When I reply to the link, nothing ever happens to make that IE better... It continues to happen, and generally at a most important part of my online work.... To finally be able to get online and be on line for several hours, with no bumping off..... Firefox.... Mazilla Gorilla.... It operates fast, and most of my links open in it.... Only a few come up and say it is suggested to open this link in IE... Of course, it doesn't open, or it takes 20 minutes for the buffers in a presentation to catch up and show the link.

If I could I would take it right out of my computer altogether, but my Tech said I have to leave it in....
What a bummer.... I think it stinks!

To those who don't need it, but are looking for a comparo:

by ST3ALTHPSYCH0 - 2/10/06 9:20 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

It's been well stated that at this stage IE 7 beta 2 is a developer tool, however many people are downloading it for the preview aspect. Check out PC World magazine January. The article is in archives @ their website www.pcworld.com. Unfortunately, you have to be a subscriber to access the archives. Anyway, they put Firefox, Opera, and IE 7 (beta 1) head to head to head. The skinny: no losers. When IE7 comes out in full version, people who stick w/ it so they don't have to **** aroung w/ anything else will get some of the cool features we've been enjoying. FX and Opera are better, but between them it comes down to if you like to tinker (i.e. Fx). I highly recommend getting ahold of the article (even if you have to do their risk free subscription and cancel it :)) I think it will answer a lot of lay peoples questions w/out them having the headaches of playing w/ something not ready for public release.

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download...

by Ron Geiken - 2/10/06 10:18 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

Tried downloading this program, but like a lot of other people, I had trouble getting it installed. Still don't have it installed as of 2/12/2006. During installation, it failed to install because of some cryptic problem which Microsoft didn't offer any help to correct. Better to just skip this beta for the moment, and either start or keep using Firefox 1.5.0.1. I have been using Firefox for the past year or so, and it is sure a lot more friendly than any Microsoft Browser ever offered. I only tried to download IE7 because I wanted to see how it looked. After using Firefox for a while, you become very comfortable with it, and are not inclined to make a change.

(NT) I had probs w/ 1.5.0.1, but 1.5 is great for me!

IE 7? Not a chance

by cudles41 - 2/10/06 5:57 PM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

why would anyone want to download ie 7?
microsoft hasn't put out a decent product since 95.
Me was just a new version of 98 with a few bugs fixed,XP is nothing to brag about. It came with my Dell & I've had nothing but problems with it.
XP don't even play well with itself let alone any other software.when I'm in windows explorer I get a message that it's caused an error & needs to shut down!I will only download security updates from microsoft & they are too few & too far apart!
Seems like microsoft should fix the problems they already have instead of making new ones!!

IE ? you mean OWEE!!!

by Aerospaceman - 2/10/06 11:01 PM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

i recently had to remove the new IE7.0 beta because it was crashing my system: DFI 85bl, Intel P4 3.0 Ghz 256 Mb RAM DDR400 PC3200(2 sticks), FX5500 MSI video card 256 Mb Ram, Previous IE 6.0. The current Ie 7.0 B was suppose to run on Win Vista aka Longhorn. Maybe this was one of the problems? I don't really know but this was causing chaos on my system without running any extra software, anyhow it may be different for each system.

It's a different Beta...

by John.Wilkinson Moderator - 2/11/06 7:48 AM In reply to: IE ? you mean OWEE!!! by Aerospaceman

The version of Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview available from the provided link is for Windows XP (32-bit) with SP2 only. Those running beta versions of Windows Vista have to obtain the latest version of IE 7 Beta through the Vista update channels.

Good luck.

Unfortunately it's for XP only

by sngledaddy - 2/11/06 6:25 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

I think it is a shame that ALL window OS's are not allowed to download it, and probably never will be!!!

by stonehkm - 2/11/06 4:21 PM In reply to: Unfortunately it's for XP only by sngledaddy

You're not o XP yet?
Shame on you. No matter what you think of XP it is far superior to any of it's previous Windows OS!

No XP? sad...

by i.am.roto - 2/11/06 8:39 PM In reply to: XP? by stonehkm

Sad but true...although there are still reasons to run 98 for testing purposes. Sadly, there are still people out there with this OS. Grandmas and Grandpas need to get with the times. ;)

winXP isn't as popular as one might believe...

by ackmondual - 2/14/06 7:24 AM In reply to: XP? by stonehkm

Many home users are still using win98 SE. (Parents still use win95, but that's another story entirely). In corporate environments, win2k is the favored M$ OS. Many home users think winXP is the best. Being a casual user myself, I like winXP's slick new interface, options, and colors, but from an IT and technical standpoint, many "techies" will agree that win2k is truly the best M$ OS. Some of the best features are there and it could run on MUCH MORE systems than winXP. In fact, if you take away all of winXP's "bling"... it's just win2k with better networking.
