Something to check...

by John.Wilkinson Moderator - 2/12/06 12:59 PM In reply to: sound card issues - even after uninstalling ie7beta2 by burkemr

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 shouldn't have caused a problem with your sound system, though with Microsoft anything's possible. What I'd like you to do is right-click my Computer, select Properties, select the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, and expand "sound, video, and game controllers." See if any are marked with a yellow caution triangle. Also, right-click the entry four your audio driver (it should say something to the effect of 'Nvidia nForce 6-channel audio'), select properties, select the Driver tab, and report back the name and version of the driver.

Most likely the issue can be solved by updating/reinstalling the audio driver. You can try "roll back driver" from the driver tab, though that usually doesn't solve the problem. The eMachines website doesn't have any drivers available for download, so you'd have to get it from Nvidia's website, but at this point I'm not sure which one you need. (That's what the above info should help to determine.) If this strikes out, you can try contacting eMachines teh support via live chat (5AM to midnight Pacific time) by clicking here.

Create a system restore point BEFORE installing IE 7 Beta!

by i.am.roto - 2/10/06 11:26 PM In reply to: How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

I highly suggest doing this BEFORE experimenting with IE 7. Don't rely on your system to create one automatically. Creating a system restore point takes under a minute on most machines and will really save you some headaches as I've heard IE 6 starts to behave strangely when IE 7 is uninstalled (no matter how thoroughly it's uninstalled)...for example: IE opens new windows when favorites are clicked on and they lock up.

My advice: create a system restore point, install IE 7 beta, play with it ;) for a few days without installing any other programs, restore the system using the restore point you created...

Have fun...

(NT) I totally agree!

Have to check "Show Updates" to find IE7 Beta2

by EKlumppJr - 2/21/06 9:33 PM In reply to: How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

You have to check the box "show updates" at the top of add/remove programs window to be able to find IE7 Beta 2 Preview. It's then listed under Windows XP - Software Updates. I had to uninstall and re-install IE7, the first one was a victim of Norton blocking some of the download.

IE7 - Aestetically Pleasing

by happerhapper - 2/10/06 2:13 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

Having recently installed the Beta 2 my initial impressions are all positive. Primarily the main plus points are:-

- cleaner, cleare, with slimmed down layout
- no co-existence issues with installed software inventory
- long awaited tabs, simplified favourites, RSS feeds
- improved stability and security
- increased screen real estate

Overall a step forward in user experience.

Yes, but need debug

by RichM - 2/17/06 7:55 AM In reply to: IE7 - Aestetically Pleasing by happerhapper

I do agree that it is very pleasing to the eye. There are still problem not getting my Favorites to work, and it limits doing XP repairs too. I am well aware of these things. There are probably other things that I am not aware about. Stil it is a beta and I fully understand it. Still, I am looking forward to the full release! That being said I will continue to explore what it can do for me now.

BTW, some folks have not read the instructions on how to remove the beta. This can create serious problems as I have seen some go the extent of formating their hard drive! To remove it, go to the add/remove menu, clike on the box for MS updates. This should reveal the IE7 Beta so that it can be removed.

You are right...

by stonehkm - 2/17/06 3:41 PM In reply to: Yes, but need debug by RichM

if you remove it through the add/remove programs after checking the updates box. I have loaded it and removed it twice and IE6 has performed as before...no problems. If you want to beta test, check what you must do to remove FIRST!!!!!!!

Verify that...

by John.Wilkinson Moderator - 2/18/06 7:13 AM In reply to: IE 7 beta not visible in Add or Remove Programs by anandtulpule

Make sure you have checked the box to show updates, then check there, not where it would normally be in alphabetical order, as instructed in this post. If it's still not displayed, you'd have to run the uninstaller manually in order to uninstall IE7, if you so choose to.

Hope this helps,
John

by dawson4022 - 2/10/06 2:36 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 now available for download... by John.Wilkinson Moderator

I have downloaded it and so far it is fantastic. everything that you need is there with the tabs, dropdowns, and so forth. it did disable all my favorites in my msn perscription page, but i did a organize and moved all my favorites in IE to my msn page and was back in business. other than that i couldn't see any other problems. to me it is more convenient and practicle. all have a good day.

IE7 & McAfee Antivirus

by rondack - 2/10/06 3:30 AM In reply to: Internet Explorer 7 by dawson4022

I installed the Beta 2 preview and liked it until I discovered that as of yet it does not work with McAfee Antivirus programs. I had to uninstall IE7, but will reinstall as soon as there is a patch for McAfee.
