The essay to settle all arguments

by Zd8000owner - 1/10/06 8:16 PM In reply to: May I ask … by straca

Anyhow, here is my dissertation on the laptop known as the Hp zd8000 and why you shouldn¡¦t complain seeing as it is a great laptop and easily one of the best price-value deals out there.

I ordered a zd8000 recently, and I must say that I am not sure what is wrong with most reviewers. Maybe the reviewers don¡¦t actually have the laptop, or HP worked some magic as of recently and fixed all problems.

Fan: Not so commonly complained about anymore but for the longest time people said it sounded like a jet. They were obviously exaggerating as the fans are fairly quiet. And only one of the three is on most of the time.

Heat: Boil some water. Put your hand in it. Remove. Then turn on hp zd8000 and run Counter strike for 2 hours (plugged in of course). Compare temperature.
The way people complain about it you'd think there were dozens of 3rd-degree burn injuries from the notebook each day. I use it on my 45 minute ride to school (Univ. of Wash) each day and guess what? Not only does it not burn, but it actually keeps me sort of warm. And yes, warm at 9:00 in the morning during this time of year in Seattle is nice. Bottom line -- It does not overheat. It does not feel too hot. And it is perfectly manageable at all times. If your heat sensitive or something put it on a desk and let that inanimate object FEEL the burn.

Weight: Personally I don't care for the weight. I am 6'1¡¨, 185 pounds. It feels rather light to me :P. Plus it IS a desktop replacement. I dont know why everyone was expecting a pillowful of feathers. Bottom line -- Use it plugged in somewhere on a desk. Then put it in a backpack that doesn¡¦t have a million books stuffed in it and the weight will feel just fine.

Battery life: Again, I may not be a computer techie but I know the P4 contributes to the low battery life. Not surprising. Plus, I don¡¦t see why anyone would complain; it does have to power up the 17-inch high-def screen after all. Anyhow, I transport it a lot and have never run out of battery. Maybe everyone uses their laptops out in the jungles of South America but I use mine indoors. So there is always somewhere to plug in to. Plus, here¡¦s an insider tip: If you¡¦re in a bus or car, or train or any other vehicle, you¡¦re probably not gonna get any wireless internet. So what? Just move your finger up and right 2 inches or so and then turn off the wi-fi. You get and extra half an hour battery life that way. Uh-huh. Genius, I know.

Multimedia: Please don¡¦t ever complain about how the Hpzd8000 can¡¦t play games well or do anything media-related. It is a very powerful machine and I still haven¡¦t found a game on this planet (and therefore in this galaxy) that it cannot handle. And by handle I mean Man-Handle fool! It serves video games right up. Maybe because I¡¦m only 15 years old and was not alive when pong and Pac-man required 512 mb of video ram, but even with the 256 mb v-ram You WILL be able to run any game on the market. Yes, I know blah blah blah blah laptop with its pretty AMD blah can do blah much better. But guess what? It don¡¦t matter to me baby! Because if the laptop I own can do everything I want. Then I am satisfied.

So the BIG FINALE/CONCLUSION/END OF 600 WORD ESSAY: If you want something powerful for order $1500 with a free printer. Then visit HPshooping.com and I am sure there is something in the notebooks aisle that will fit your needs.

Heh, sure glad I didn¡¦t have to pay anything. My parents did ƒº

Peace peoples.
A (rather pleased) Hp zd8000 OWNER!

What is your zd8000 configuration?

by Ronald Menousek - 2/2/06 11:56 AM In reply to: The essay to settle all arguments by Zd8000owner

I am in the process of purchasing a desktop replacement - little travel with it and them almost always with a power supply brick. I am deciding between the zd8230, the dv8140, configuring a dv8000, and a Dell 9300. This will be for office use and I currently have a Dell 9300 as my personal computer. I priced Gateway M680 and NX850, but both are more expensive than the Dell and HP laptops. Since it will mostly be on my desk (with a docking station) the heat generated will not be a problem.

HP vs DELL

''CHECK THEM OUT FIRST''
Before you buy let me say check this first, you won't
regret it. Learn by my mistake.
1)Warranty Program : Does the warranty read New or Used, Refurbished replacement parts. Demand they use ''NEW'' and get in writing. It can happen to you on your new computer. (3 mo. 0ld 2005 Laptop with a 2000 hardrive)or( Instead of repairing they send you a refurbished product)
2)Hardware: Question them on use of other hardware besides theirs'
3)Software: Question them on third party software use. This was how I caught them. Claimed I voided my warranty. 4 year on Laptop.
4)Don't sell them your old computer until you remove your hardrive.
Keep looking and comparing. I had two incidence. Protect Your Self and ''Demand New''in writing.
