I only just recently purchased a 3rd gen 20GB iPod and I love it. I can see why it is No. 1.
People argue that the battery is non-replacable, but I got one from a well known online auction for £7 with tools to pop it open, swap the battery and it's fully working in 2 minutes.
Others say that if you delete a song from your computer, it deletes it from the iPod. Well this is common sense! It's be pretty stupid to having to manually remove songs from your MP3 player, and manually add every new song you get. Just plug in and in a few minutes its all up to date with playlists, podcasts etc.
And the design is simple and can never be beaten for ease of use.
And these people who use their phone/pda/psp for music and claim that it is better are fools too. Why settle for 1GB expensive flash cards when you have 20GB+ in one device? The iPod is PRIMARILY an MP3 player with added functionality. A phone is for calling people and text messages. A PSP is for games. A camera is for photos. And they all do their PRIMARY function very well.
I like my iPod and it will be replaced with a new iPod when the time comes. And if others don't like it, then it's their loss.
Here's a side profile of the Creative Zen Vision M to the iPod Video:

Wow. That's just Fugly. I don't understand the Creative Zen Vision M hype? Its a cheap ripoff of the ipod. So what? Oh, I nearly forgot, it has an FM radio! And everyone knows that FM Radios are the most sought after device in the world!
As has been stated over and over... and over again..
Not everybody LIES Itunes. So it is a non-issue. Even if it was the ONLY store online to legally get your music, there are ways to get your itunes music onto a non itunes related player, and there is no issue here of legality as it is as simple as putting it to a CD. Many MANY people do this already to bypass itunes at all, so don't be delusional and think itunes means ANYTHING. Its nice, especially if you must follow the crowd and get what billy down the street has.. Phones are a likely Ipod killer, just because they can. The argument is academic, the "jack of all trade" devices almost always take over, even if the quality is not there.. Why? because the benefit (not needing to get a 200 dollar phone and a 300 Ipod) outweighs the cost of not having impecable audio.
sad but true, ipods time is ticking.. maybe 1 year, maybe 5 as its been said. But when it leaves there will be no hole left in the tech world.
I am a newbie...please advise me how to move my iTunes to my Rio Carbon...trying to hold off buying another player (iPod???). It sucks being tied to playing the music only on my laptop.
Thanks. dhamill@sc.rr.com
Not even Sony has a chance to take over the lead in iPods. Just figure the cash flow into Apple's coffers for the last 2 years from the sale of iPods. It all boils down to who is ahead and how aggresive the company producing it is. Is as simple as 2+2 = 4.
I have a Cowon A2 player, and I absolutely love it. It replaced a Lyra jukebox with limited battery life. I miss some of the functionality - like searching via album instead of artist name - but the quality, battery life, and ease of use are wonderful.
I hope that the entire family of Cowon players soon hits people's fancies. I think they could really give the ipods a run for their money.
My brother in law has an ipod, and he let me try it out, and i could not get the hang of the navigation system. Plus, i prefer a nice BIG SCREEN with color.
But then I am more of a PMP (portable media player) person - I prefer to carry some videos and pictures with me, too, not just music.
Go Cowon!
Susan
I have Sony NW-HD5. Though It is not the latest model, I believe it is supperior than Apple iPod. An ipod is too big, too heavy, but its battery life is too short.

I personaly think creative will over throw the ipod however I halfto admit Cowen has been really impressive lately and are giveing Apple a run for thier money but I own a creative and beleive when it comes to digital audio nothing beats creative also when your on a budjet you can get alot more out of your money because for the price of a 6 gig ipod mini I got a 30 gig zen xtra! hows that for gettin the most bang for your buck and I personaly will stick by creative! but if it were between Apple and Cowen then go Cowen!
The only thing keeping me from trying an iPod is the limitation in file formats. I realize thre are equally good (better in some ways) players but the iPod would be worth a try if it at least played WMA files. The other thing I'd like to see is an iPod that used AA NiMH batteries. I'd even sacrifice some time between charges or accept a slightly larger device. It might even be worth trying with AAA size NiMHs.
what about when google enters the market?
I love Creative as a company. I have several products from them: mp3 players to computer speakers. Not only are their products great, customer service is also great . When purchasing a product, it's a good idea to do your research on it, but it's also good to trust and know when you have a problem with it you can contact the company and if you need to return it, you can.
I audio 6 is a sure fire nano killer. the look and controls along with its video playback are all steallar features.
If Dell can get out a beastly 30gb Photo/Video with the XM compatibility I've seen reports about this could overtake ipods
The Mercury News reports that Dell is all but exiting the mp3 market. Lack luster sales—dare we say "dull"?—have forced the company to drop its higher-priced players.
All three discontinued models were hard-disc based and sold for $200 to $300. However, the $99 DJ Ditty is still available from the company.
