I don't have cable. When I watch tv, I rely on an indoor antenna. I watch a lot of movies (~4/week). I want to buy a good flat-screen tv that's at least 30". I don't want surround sound, but want good sound, and I want something that will last a long time. Most of the flat screen tvs I've seen have worse pictures than regular tvs (not glossy, easy to see the pixels). I'd like to spend well under $2000. Any thoughts on what I should buy? I can wait if something's coming along. Also, I have a cheap DVD player. Should I upgrade that? Thanks.
Best (if you can handle the size/weight) is a flat screen HD CRT TV. For example, the Sony KD-34XBR960 (a 200 pound beast) blows away all other high def TVs for picture quality. Plasma, DLP and LCD TVs cannot complete on picture quality. You can get this 34" flat screen for less than $2000.
You should make sure that you have a progressive scan DVD player. These aren't that expensive but do enhance the picture quality. Also, make sure that you use the best connection to the TV (e.g., component from the DVD to the TV.)
Samsung, Phillps also.
If you have room for something a little bigger Samsung has a 42" CRT-RP set and a 47" CRT-RP set. The 47" is $999.97 at Sam's club. John
For $2000 , you can buy your c.r.t. t.v. and have enough money left over for a good 5.1. sound and a hi-def sat ayatem or cable, You going to love the programming thru you dish, sat system discover h.d. theater alone is worth the few extra bucks and dont forget the snack bar
