I've tried this stratigy for quite a while now, ever since I re-formated my computer again to XP. A good way to secure your computer from viruses, and spyware, on top of anti-virus programs etc. is to create 2 accounts. Create the first account and name it "Admin" Type in a password, and make it secret. Set this account to "administrator" in the control panal. Create a second account, make it your personal account that you'll use all the time for email, web browsing, etc. Make this personal account a "Limited" Account type. You don't need admin privilages to browes the internet. This way you can browes the internet and most un-wanted Active X, or Viruses won't be able to install themselves. Why you ask? Because by default XP won't let you install anything on a limited account. If you are going to install software, just simplely log on to your admin account, install the software, and switch back to your personal account. Whalla! It's helped me a bunch, and it's not as annoying as you think to switch between accounts, you only do it every now and then. Another good thing to do is browes the internet with "FireFox" And the only company to use / actually need Active-X on your computer is Microsoft, when you're getting updates. Thats the only Active X control you should install on your PC, are ones from Microsoft. Anything else, don't accept. Most bank sites have stopped using Active X.
Summery:
- Create 2 accouts
- An Admin, and a Limited
- Use Limited for daily use
- install programs on Admin
- Use firefox.
