I've finally done it, I've desided to buy a Mac. I'm going to get the IMac Duo Core 17" through my school so I can get a discount. If it weren't for this discount I might not of bought it. I may be buying a mac but I'm not leaving XP or Microsoft in the dust. OSx Tiger is a great OS, very stable, very user friendly, the list goes on; however, I don't think Mac OSX tiger is much better then XP. XP is a nice solid OS, you have to give it that. XP gets the rap of crashing, freezeing, etc. However XP has to run on everything, but Mac OSX only runs on Mac Hardware. Thats why OSX doesn't crash, because it's designed for the hardware, where as XP has to work with everything. I'm going to continue to use my XP machine, but I would like to have a mac because hey, its a mac. The thing that made me switch was programs like LiveType. So nice for making titles that look professional. I'm not buying a mac for video editing, (besides the live type thing) or virus protectoin. I'm only buying one beacuse they're a nice piece of work. They're comfortable to use, and I was able to get a nice price on one. $1500 Canadian. apx $1290 American.
What made you switch to a Mac? Give a specific reason, don't give the general comment of "they're so much better then PC's" Tell the readers why you switched, if it were a program or anything, what made you crack :P
with the encouragement of family and the realization I couldn't buy as capable a PC notebook for the same price as my 1.2 ghz G4 12" iBook ($900.00 US from amazon after rebates at the time).
Since that time I had to buy a inexpensive XP athlon 64 tower for cad classes. The amount of security maintenance and patch notices I have to take care of every time I turn it on just emphasizes how much work an XP machine is compared to Mac OS-10.
Yeah, the PC I have is cheaper, more powerful, and is more web friendly (more vulnerable too, ironically) but every time I turn to a computer to do daily chores it's a no brainer. The Mac is the one I ENJOY using... shouldn't you like using your computer?

Thats what I was trying to say, thank you for giving me the words. I use Macs at my school and I "Enjoy" using it.
I have been a PC user since the mid 80's and have become very attached to Windows, especially XP. One day, on a whim, I spent $695 for a miniMac, hooked it to an old Dell CRT monitor and began the sometimes frustrating task of converting my Windows techniques to the Mac OS X system. System navigation is significantly different (and easier) on a Mac OS.
I have 4 computers at home now - 2 PC's and 1 laptop running XP and my mini Mac. The Mac has become my first choice because I like the "feel" of it. It seems to be faster, smoother and actually FUN to use. It does not "freeze", "Crash" or make me install updates every time I turn it on. So far, virus-protection is not a problem. I accepted the additional expense of adding Virtual PC (which actually adds XP as an alternate OS) so I can switch to MS-Windows when necessary but I rarely do that. There is also a "MS-Office Suite for Mac" available so the only time I have to switch to the Virtual PC is for on-line sites that do not run on Mac's or for PC only applications. It really is like having 2 computers in one.
Now, I am trying to get my wife to give up her Dell PC with XP-Home and begin using the miniMac. I really want to get a new iMac with the dual processor Intel chip. It is the same price as the previous G4 version - How did they do that? (and why?) My prediction is that, with the addition of Virtual PC, people will switch to the Mac's in growing numbers. Just spend a few minutes on a Mac at your nearest Apple store and you will see why.
It has a system wide spell checker that even works in forums like this one![]()
