strange antivirus behaviour

by wheelybins - 1/26/06 12:19 PM

Can anyone help? I have an XP home machine, it suddenly wouldn't allow internet connection. if I remove McAfee it works fine. If I load CA easytrust same problem. No virus checker is showing anything.

I am stumped.

Cheers.

What programs have you used to scan with?

Try this one and see if it finds anything.

Ewido

Download and update then scan.

Thanks for the advice. I will try what you suggest. Would you agree that this is virus related, and not a hardware fault?

Cheers.

theres a few programs that i used that are absolutely stunning and work great. Download zonelabs antivirus, and system mechanic professional 9.0. (the links are at the bottom of this page)
You may have a virus that has somehow taken your internet in its control and thats why it only works with virus protection off. The zonelabs program is a antivirus program with a few extras, like a triple layer firewall and internet moniter, but you only have a 15 day trial. If you only want the internet security which is unlimited use and free use the first link. For the full suite try the second link.
Another great program i have used is called system mechanic. It includes kapersky antivirus, disk and ram defragmenter, worm finder, registry mechanic, a program to optimize your internet to the best working settings and much more. It comes with a 30 day trial.
Also Mcaffe isnt the greatest program and doesnt have good definitions of virus's. So try these and i can almost guarentee your computer will work better.

hope this helps,

Josh
