SONY Wega KV-34XBR910 34" Wide CRT

by ecotony - 1/19/06 12:18 PM In reply to: My main TV set at home is: by Marc Bennett Moderator

Huge beast of a box, but the best picture for both analogue and digital signals. Sound from the XBR was great, but upgrated to a surround home-theater and don't use internal speakers.

If you want an awesome picture that is huge that you measure in feet not inches look into projectors - I picked mine up for $999 - worth every penny and more.

Hitachi 42EDT41A

by hfp22 - 1/20/06 12:25 AM In reply to: My main TV set at home is: by Marc Bennett Moderator

Excellent picture, love watching DVDs as much as possible on my Hitachi. I chose ED(Enchanced Definition) since I didn't expect to sign-up for HD service. DVDs look great but COX Cable is terrible; they said they can't(wouldn't) do anything about it. Avoid COX cable, lousy customer service too. I highly recommend Hitachi, looking forward to purchasing an HD Hitachi Plasma or LCD since we are suppose to be switching to HD signals accross the country, we'll see....

DLP Rocks, but the new Sony SXRD is even better

by kstrat - 1/20/06 5:38 AM In reply to: My main TV set at home is: by Marc Bennett Moderator

I own a Samsung 720P DLP 50" Microdisplay TV. I love it. Great for sports and movies in High Def. I also will add, the new Sony SXRD is even better than my picture. I have a friend who bought the Sony SXRD 60" 1080P and it looks even better than the Samsung. However, either way you can't go wrong. Also, the new 1080P's are newer technology, and cost alot more.

Main TV Set

by Pops77 - 1/20/06 5:49 AM In reply to: My main TV set at home is: by Marc Bennett Moderator

My "main" TV set (the one in my family room which is the most often watched) is a 5 year old 34" widescreen Panasonic Tau HDTV. However, I am presently shopping for a 40" LCD to replace it and will probably purchase a JVC 1080p LCD. Do I think that I will be able to tell a difference in resolution between a 1080p versus a 720p Sony Bravia from 10 feet away? No, but for about the same price as the Sony, the JVC will give me 2 HDMI and 2 Firewire inputs (the Sony only has 1 HDMI)so that I can connect my Comcast HDTV cable box and Denon up-converting DVD player both via HDMI.

We fairly recently purchased the Panasonic TC-32LX50 LCD TV. We have not gone to the additional expense for an HDMI Set Top Box, nor expensive cables. Yet, we are extremely pleased with the picture and audio quality. Pete Edman

My television is a Maxent 42" Plasma

by jord9 - 1/20/06 6:42 PM In reply to: My main TV set at home is: by Marc Bennett Moderator

CNET recommended this brand. The Hi-Def picture is amazing. Watching football in Hi-Def is an absolutely incredible visual experience. However, I can't really watch anything other than the Hi-Def channels and DVD's because the normal channels look horrible, especially when you have the setting to fill the entire screen. The picture is so grainy and fuzzy and pixelated that it is unwatchable. Looks like a blurry enlarged windows media file. I wished I had known this before purchasing this. I thought regular telvision would look crystal clear when displayed on a plasma just not Hi-Def clear. So iIhave had to alter my television viewing habits drastically. I sure hope more networks will switch to HDTV soon so I can have some more viewing choices.

I know what you mean. Our main set is a Toshiba 42" Plasma. The HD stuff is phenominal! The digital stuff looks really nice but the standard def. is pretty bad. You learn to work through it. We find our family watching mindless pretty stuff on the HD feeds rather than the programing we would normally watch just because it looks soooooo good. Both INHD 1 and 2, UHD, Discovery HD, ESPN HD, MusicHD, as well as the avaialbe network HD programing make it very enjoyable. Over time we will enjoy more and more HD.
