LOL Don't feel bad I have the same kind/size tv. AV27D500 to be exact. Mine's probably going on 6 years old or better and been running about 17 hours a day for the last 5 years lol.
My daughter's TV is my old 19" Toshiba which has been running damn near 3 years straight since she has been born lol. Not including power outages. It's approaching the 13 year old mark! I think it has the nicest picture in the house.
Last Sony CRT lasted only 5 years - very disappointed.
Got new big screen fever. Didn't know diddley about newer tech. Avoided plasma - was concerned as I live at 6000 feet altitude.
Didn't want huge projection - think they're almost universally very ugly in typical home setting.
Loved the size and initial performance. Wasn't pushed for extended warranty. I now feel it essential with newer tech goods.
After the one year warranty - all hell broke loose albeit in slow motion.
Two repairs for $1050 so far and now at 27 months the bulb is considerably dim - so close to replacement of that at say $300-$350.
Very disappointing. Look before you leap. Is there any forum or whatever passing on decent info on reliability? That would be a real public service and guide to decision making.
My main TV at home is an HD ready rear-projection Panasonice 52"
Hitachi 61 inch rear projection
My T.V is a 21 year old Hitachi color T.v. I don't watch it much becuase there never is anthing good to watch and with the high cost of cable and sattilite systems I use only local programming. I watch Nascar when it is available on local channels. The Hatachi is a 21 inch screen, it may be old but it still works great.
I am very very very happy with the new DLP TV, especially watching the HDTV football games!!!
56 inches, have it two years. it's great
Samsung 4677W
Originally bought a Samsung HL-N507W but it developed screen problems known as "smudges" where there are blotches of smudges around the screen when its cold. It was a known problem with Samsung and they had a fix for it but because I live in a rural area of Northern California I was unable to find a repair tech competent enough to handle it. When Samsung realized this and that the closest qualified tech was 200 miles away, the just replaced the TV and upgraded me to the HL-R5667. Got 6" bigger screen and a TV with many more features for free. I am now a loyal Samsung fan. Currently shopping for a 32-37" LCD for my Master Bedroom and it will probably be Samsung. Cant beat their customer service.
My main TV is a Samsung Direct View. It's 30 inch widescreen HDTV. I bought it three years ago anticipating getting high definition, which I did about a month ago. I really love the TV now that I have high definition. I, like Lee, would like a larger set but I have a family as well and must be a little more responsible.
HP 42" HD plasma
nm
I have a 50" Sony rear projection LCD. Its great and far cheaper than pure lcd and plasma.
