Having checked that system out before I bought my Acer 5024, the main consideration for me was the lack of a dedicated graphics card, this one has the ATI RADEON ® XPRESS 200M IGP with 128MB DDR.
If it works for what you need it for, then that's great. My lappy has the X600 with 64mb of video ram and I can play all my games (Doom3, MOH, FEAR, TW2005, have yet to try 2k6 but I imagine that won't be a problem), I can't have all the settings cranked up on D3 tho as it starts to lose frames, but for everyday use its great.
I ust came back from Staples as they had this unit on sale....I had just purchased the HP Presario R4125ca at Costco but the keys are so "sticky" that I find it too time consuming to keep retyping words. How are you liking the Pavilion - speed, responsivenesswhen typing etc. my use is for home office - word proc. excel,etc. Would appreciate any feedback.
Till now, I have no problems with it. Its performance is great, images very sharp and crisp. Tried some older games like NFS3 it seems to run pretty fine. All in all I am pretty happy with it.
Cons: Remove Norton Anti virus, as it seems to slow down the laptop. Install McAfee. The reflections from the screen can be discerning at times, but once u get used to it, it gets ok.
thanks for your response. I have been placing the laptops side by side and still love the keyboard on the 6230. The only diff. is that the R4125ca is 100 mb hard drive and this one 80 mb (not much diff. at my level of work) and 2.2 speed proc. as opposed to 2 proc on the Pavilion. You might want to check with Staples to see if you can get the price guarantee - don't know what you paid but the price is now $999.00 Cdn.
wow! that's 200$ savings. for 999.85 it is a steal. I do hope they will give me a price guarantee. thanks for the info! i will check with them right away. will update once i get back from them.
Staples, has a policy of 14 days for their price guarantee, and I am past that date, so they have refused, despite speaking to the manager!!!. Thats harsh!
what a shame...although from what I understand 1200 is a good price. Spoke with HP Sales yesterday and was great pleased with their response. Even though this has a 80 gb hard drive instead of 100 for the other one I have (am returning!) the keyboard makes so much difference for me it is worth it. The only other problem I am experiencing is that the system freezes when I shutdown from the Start Menu. I have not activited Norton yet, so it cannot be that...anyone have any suggestions?
I guess that is an WinXP issue. Maybe there are some drivers that are causing the problem. That's what i did not like, as the lappy came with XP home instead of Pro, and they put all files in one drive without any partition. imagine 80G sitting in one drive. I am waiting to get over the novelty of my lappy before I reformat and re-install xp Pro.
ciao
PS: after speaking to them, they seem to have brought the price back to its original value ... wonder what they achieve by that???
Half=life 2 is a great game f,sure

I have a Gateway 3522GZ that I bought in May. The hard drive broke, (not too happy about that, but it happens to the best of them) and I called customer service on Monday (MLK day). After being on hold for less than 1 minute, I let the rep know of my problem. They agreed to replace it under warranty, but couldn't ship it until Tueday ... well it's Tuesday and I am typing this on my Gateway restored with the new hard drive. My point is that I received great service when I had a problem, so if customer service helps in making your decision, I hope this is helpful.
