by GAJM41191 - 1/16/06 9:57 AMwell i ordered one from amazon after looking up a lot of reviews and i think this is the one. it should be here in a few days. im really excited, this is my first mp3 player, but i do have a PSP, but that doesnt count. does anyone have any other input about the philips. good or bad?

Pros: 6Gb for $200, color screen, comfortable earbuds.
Cons: Smudges easily, some buttons are on the sides so it's harder to manipulate it with just one hand, un-intuitive user interface, lack of 3rd party support, battery life, not as loud as other MP3 players.
I bought an iPod for my girlfriend and now here I am wishing I'd bought one for me instead of the Phillips. With the iPod, all the controls are on the face of the unit making it easy to operate the unit with just one finger. The menus and features are all easily accessible. The Phillips takes a lot of getting used to and can be frustrating at times as sometimes tapping on the forward or back "buttons" does not register or there is a delay. Learning how to use a new device should not be annoying.
Battery life: Is it just me or does the unit seem to discharge if you just leave it alone? Fully charged, I left it unplugged for a couple of days. The screen was off and nothing was playing, but when I went back to the unit, it had about 1/3 a charge left.
Third party support: Look around. Anywhere that sells consumer electronics sells aftermarket accessories specifically for the iPod including cases, amplified speakers with docking options, chargers, etc. Many of these devices won't work with any other MP3 player or will not work as seamlessly. The lack of responses to your original question should be proof enough of the lack of popularity of this unit.
I've owned and used several MP3 players including 4 CD-based units, a Creative Labs 20Gb Nomad, an iPod mini, a 512Mb Samsung T7JX, a Sony ''bean'', and this unit. I hate to say it, but the iPods are the best of the breed.

And it was just so buggy I couldn't handle it. If the HDD6330 is supposed to be the high end model, it doesn't reflect well on the other players. I just had a terrible time with it. Freezing constantly, erasing music, not syncing correctly with WMP...it just wouldn't end. I finally had enough and went out and bought a Toshiba Gigabeat F40 for 30 dollars cheaper and haven't regretted it since.
Question on what you think about the player now

I am looking at it and the Creative Zen Micro. I was also interested in knowing if it is able to use the music services like Napster to go? Let me know what you think..
