This may sound silly, but

what version of QuickTime are you installing with itunes 6?
Your error message indicates that your version of QT is NOT 7.0.3. So, go to the Apple site and download QT 7.0.3 for yourself.
It might work

Same thing here!

I too have tried to download Itunes 6 with Quicktime. The Quicktime that downloads with Itunes 6 is 7.0.2. I tried to download 7.0.3 (which is what Itunes 6 says is needed) but when I try it I get an error message saying that the Quicktime that I have installed (7.0.2) is newer than the one that I am trying to install (7.0.3). This makes absolutely no sense to me and I can't seem to uninstall Quicktime through the usual methods. I'm stuck too!

It will work.

Install the latest QT, download from the QT site, and it will install.
Uninstaller is included in the usual windows place

Mine Hasn't

Have tried to install the latest QT, 7.0.3 and it won't install. It says that the QT currently installed is newer (7.0.2 that came with Itunes 6).

Quicktime Error

by sportschrome - 12/25/05 7:40 PM In reply to: This may sound silly, but by saywhatnow

I am having the same problem with getting Quicktime 7.0.3 I have tried to delete the previous version of Quicktime but it still shows up in the Control Panel list.
Is it safe to delete the Quicktime in the Control Panel List?
My kids are waiting for me to have their new Ipods set up for use.

Would appreciate some answers or help.

I have Windows XP home
HP pavillion zv5000

Thanks,

Peter

I got it to work! Here's what I did...

by twinran1 - 11/16/05 4:26 PM In reply to: quicktime error by dstarisbeastin

I went into Quicktime: Windows troubleshooting tips, link:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60765

I didn't follow all of the tips but these are the ones that I did do:
1) Downloaded the most recent version of DirectX which, if you go to the link above, is offered as a free download.
2) Downloaded the stand-alone 7.0.3 version of the Quicktime Installer (the one offered in this link is different than other 7.0.3 versions I found)

Before I did the above steps, I uninstalled Itunes. Then I downloaded the above Quicktime. Then I reinstalled Itunes 6 and it worked!
P.S. I didn't do anything in Safe Mode as suggested.

Good luck! I hope it works for you too!

Way to go

Good work.

I found an uninstaller for QT by doing a search for everything quicktime. The installer is hidden in the progam folder.

Thanks - it worked

on Jan-14-2006 that Quicktime link is for version 7.0.4.80 and the Active X is for version 9.0c

I did get two errors during the Quicktime install
QTUIPanelControl.dll and QuickTimeCheck.ocx failed to Unregister - but the install was still successful.

Thanks for the post I have tried this many times since September with no luck.
